Jose Mourinho is the early favourite with the bookmakers to become Manchester United’s next manager after Ruben Amorim.
United missed the chance to end a miserable season on a positive on Wednesday night as they were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham in the Europa League final.
The result adds more pressure on Amorim’s future at United, with supporters already concerned by the team’s woeful Premier League record since he took over from Erik ten Hag in November.
In his post-match interview at the Europa League final defeat, Amorim offered to walk away from United without a compensation package if the club’s hierarchy believe he is no longer the right man for the job.
‘In this moment, I am not going to be here defending myself. I cannot do it, it is really hard for me,’ Amorim said.

‘I have nothing to show to the fans to say I am going to improve.
‘So in this moment it is a little bit of faith. Let’s see. I am always open, if the board and the fans feel I am not the right guy, I will go in the next day without any conversation about compensation.
‘But I will not quit. I am really confident on my job. As you can see I will not change nothing in the way I do things.’

If Amorim were to leave, the early favourite with bookmaker Betfair to become the next United manager is Mourinho at 4/1.
The 62-year-old, who is just about to finish his first campaign with Turkish side Fenerbahce, spent just over two seasons with United before he was sacked in December 2018.
During his time at Old Trafford, Mourinho guided United to victory in both the Carabao Cup and the Europa League, while he famously claimed that finishing second in the Premier League in 2018 was one of his greatest career achievements.
Second-favourite to take over from Amorim is Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna at 9/2.
The 39-year-old, whose Ipswich side suffered relegation from the Premier League this season, was part of United’s coaching staff under Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.
McKenna was also on United’s shortlist of candidates to replace Ten Hag last year.
Third-favourite is former England manager Gareth Southgate at 8/. The 54-year-old has not made a return to management since leaving his role with the Three Lions after Euro 2024.
Xavi, who was sacked by Barcelona at the end of last season and replaced with Hansi Flick, is fourth favourite to replace Amorim at United at odds of 17/2.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank held talks with United last year as another possible successor for Ten Hag. The 51-year-old is currently 9/1 to replace Amorim.
Fulham manager Marco Silva is priced at 11/1, while Carlo Ancelotti, who agreed to become Brazil’s national team head coach this month, Mauricio Pochettino and Unai Emery are all at odds of 12/1.
