Mark Cuban Claims Mavericks Have Made Decision on Trading Anthony Davis

Even though he is no longer in full control of the Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban still has a large influence on the organization. He still owns part of the team. With Nico Harrison fired, rumors have been swirling about the future of Anthony Davis.

As everyone knows, Davis was traded for Luka Doncic last season. That trade ended up getting Harrison fired, as Davis has missed over 75 percent of the games he could possibly play since joining Dallas. There have been rumors that the Mavs could trade him this year.

Cuban has released a definitive statement on Davis’ future. They will not be trading him.

The Dallas Mavericks Won’t Trade Anthony Davis

In a statement to Joe Vardon of The Athletic, Cuban claims that the Mavericks will be moving forward with Davis. When asked if they would try to trade him, Cuban said no, citing wanting to win.

“We won’t. We want to try to win.”

Cuban is an advisor to principal owner Patrick Dumont, but Dumont makes the decisions. Cuban gave up those responsibilities when he sold his majority of the franchise. Right now, the Mavericks are committed to moving forward with Davis on the roster.

Davis has played just 14 games for Dallas since joining the team two weeks before the trade deadline last season. With the Mavericks being able to draft Cooper Flagg, they have someone to build around for the future.

How the Mavericks build around Flagg and Davis right now is unclear. Kyrie Irving won’t be back for another few months, either. Offensively, the Mavs have the second-worst rating in the league. Only the oft-injured Pacers have a worse offense.

Anthony Davis’ Return is Unclear

At this point, it’s unclear when Davis will return from his calf injury. Dumont wanted to make sure that Davis was fully healthy before he played, and that was at odds with what Harrison wanted. The Mavs have struggled with Davis away from the court.

Currently, Dallas sits 13th in the Western Conference standings. Without Davis returning soon, they have a very small shot at making the playoffs. Cuban and the rest of the Mavericks still believe that Davis can help them win games, even if that doesn’t happen this season.
