Matthew Schaefer Opens Up About His Conversation with Tom Brady

Matthew Schaefer shared details about his first conversation with Tom Brady after partnering with the NFL legend’s brand. Schaefer spoke highly of Brady and highlighted a positive character trait that makes him a great role model.

The New York Islanders rookie signed a partnership deal with NOBULL, an athletic apparel brand co-owned by Brady. Schaefer, 18, has had a strong rookie season. He was selected 1st overall in the 2025 NHL Draft and has been a key contributor to the organization’s resurgence.

Schaefer’s strong performances have generated plenty of attention, especially from brands. Before partnering with NOBULL, the Islanders rookie defenseman got a chance to speak with Brady himself.

The former New England Patriots quarterback shared some words of wisdom and expressed excitement for the partnership. Schaefer said they had a great conversation and expressed gratitude for their chat.

“[Brady’s] awesome,” Schaefer said during an interview with Casino.ca. “I talked to him for probably a solid 5-10 minutes and we were just talking about life and everything. He was like, ‘Well, I can’t wait to partner with you.’ I’m like, ‘You can’t wait? I can’t wait to partner with you.’”

He added: “It was so cool. Hopefully I’ll get to meet him. He was a great guy.”

Matthew Schaefer Praises Tom Brady’s Dedication to His NOBULL Brand

Matthew Schaefer also praised Tom Brady for his incredible work ethic and dedication to his NOBULL brand.

Schaefer noted that Brady is truly invested in the success of his brand. He said the Super Bowl winner’s ability to balance several different projects and brands at once is remarkable.

“I don’t think I will ever be as busy as him. He’s doing so much, and he’s so focused with NOBULL and stuff like that,” Schaefer told Casino.ca. “He’s always looking to improve the brand no matter what.”

The Islanders rookie also acknowledged Brady and NOBULL co-owner, Mike Repole, strive for perfection.

“[Brady’s] taken so much care of everything he’s done. He’s put so much effort into it, to make it be the best thing possible,” Schaefer said. “I think Tom and Mike [Repole] are both this: they want to be perfectionists. Nobody will ever be perfect, but they are guys that want to be, that want to give it their all each and every day.”

He added: “They want to make this the best brand name and apparel company there is.”

Schaefer has made a smooth transition to the NHL despite being only 18-years-old. The defenseman has not looked out of place and has quickly earned respect around the league.

While he is getting attention from brands like NOBULL, Schaefer could see even more interest should he capture the Calder Trophy. The award is given to the player who is considered the top rookie in the NHL throughout the regular season.

So far, Schaefer has scored 22 goals and added 34 assists for a total of 56 points in 74 games. The Islanders rookie is also a +21 while averaging 24:31 of ice time, which is an impressive stat.
