Max Christie Didn’t Sleep After Lakers Used Him As Part of Luka Doncic Trade

The Los Angeles Lakers executed the most surprising trade in NBA history last year. They were able to trade Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a first-round pick for Luka Doncic and Maxi Kleber. It was the most shocking trade in league history.

It was a trade that had everyone wondering if Shams Charania’s social media account was hacked. Doncic has thrived in Los Angeles, while the Mavericks have already traded Davis. Christie has turned into a solid piece of Dallas’ bench, though.

Christie is largely seen as a throw-in for that trade to work. He recently explained his emotions about the trade and how everything went down.

Max Christie Explains Exit From Lakers as Part of Luka Doncic Trade

While appearing on The Old Man And The Three, Christie explained how he found out he was traded.

“We just beat the Knicks in New York by 10 or 15. We were feeling good. We were kind of rolling at that point. I had started maybe 15 to 20 games in a row at that point for us. We were on the way back to the hotel.”

After that, Christie knew something big was about to happen to him.

“We were staying the night on the team bus and Rob Pelinka and JJ both kind of like called me at the same time and this was around the deadline and so Rob didn’t really call me that often like every now and then, but as soon as my phone started ringing I saw it I kind of like had a idea but I didn’t want to assume and then you know he basically told me what was going on and uh zero sleep that night for sure. I didn’t sleep at all.”

Christie acknowledged that he was part of one of the most shocking trades in NBA history.

“I stayed on the Lakers through two trade deadlines. Seeing teammates get traded, seeing guys around the league get traded, you don’t really know what it’s like until you’re a part of something like that. I just happened to be a part of probably one of the biggest ones ever.”

Los Angeles Clearly Won the Luka Doncic Trade

It’s pretty clear that the Lakers won the trade. Davis is already on another roster. Meanwhile, Los Angeles has the eighth-best offense in the league. That is largely thanks to Doncic and his ability to control every aspect of the game on the offensive end of the court.

Doncic did just tweak his hamstring, but there is no indication that he will be out for a long period of time. The Mavericks will be in the lottery for the second straight season since trading him away, which is certainly not what they were hoping for.

Nico Harrison lost his job over this trade. Rob Pelinka has continued to build pieces around Doncic who can maximize his talents. Those two facts are why the Lakers are the big winners. Now, Doncic has to prove it in the postseason this year.
