The New York Mets are expected to be big players as MLB’s hot stove season progresses. After a disappointing 2025 season, it was clear that the Mets had several things to address. Aside from re-signing Pete Alonso, the next pressing issue for New York is addressing the starting rotation.
Coming into the 2025 season, the Mets’ rotation was supposed to be the highlight of the roster; however, injuries hit the rotation hard, and by the time September rolled around, the Mets were relying on many unproven arms to carry the load. A recent free agency prediction has the Mets signing a two-time All-Star starter from the Milwaukee Brewers.

Mets Predicted to Sign Brandon Woodruff
Brewers’ starter Brandon Woodruff has spent a lot of his time recently rehabbing from injuries, but he did see some meaningful innings this season and looked to regain some of his former All-Star status before he eventually went down with an injury again.
In a recent predictions piece by Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller, Brandon Woodruff is predicted to sign a three-year, $60 million contract with the New York Mets:
“If he doesn’t take the qualifying offer to stay in Milwaukee, it would make sense for him to land with a deep-pocketed team that is willing to gamble on upgrading what is already a good stockpile of candidates for its starting rotation.”
“Prediction: Three years, $60M with New York Mets”

As Miller noted, Woodruff is a qualifying offer candidate, which also might be a good option for Woodruff because if he can stay healthy next season and produce at a high level on the qualifying offer, he could enter free agency at the end of next season and receive a more lucrative deal than this $60 million prediction.
Why the Mets Should Make This Signing?
The New York Mets should consider signing Brandon Woodruff because of the question marks surrounding their rotation depth. Sean Maenea wasn’t the guy in 2025 that he was in 2024, and Frankie Montas is expected to miss the entirety of the 2026 season. Nolan McLean will certainly continue to develop, but the Mets’ rotation hinges on a couple of unproven arms.
Woodruff made 12 starts this season and posted a 3.20 ERA over 64.2 innings. He was sidelined for the Brewers’ playoff run this October, but he is expected to be healthy for the 2026 season when Spring Training starts.
The two-time All-Star Woodruff did show in 2025 that he still has his strikeout stuff, as he posted an impressive 11.6 K/9.
