Mets Report: Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor Had ‘Chilly’ Relationship in 2025

The New York Mets did not have a successful season in 2025 when speaking in terms of expectations. After making the NLCS in 2024, the Mets missed out on the playoffs altogether in 2025. However, it was the first season of a massive 15-year contract for Juan Soto, and his 2025 campaign was stellar, per usual.

Francisco Lindor also put together another All-Star season, but a recent report indicates that the star teammates, Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor, had a bizarre “chilly” relationship.

What Was Going on in the Mets’ Clubhouse in 2025?

New York Post’s Mike Puma reported Friday night that there was a personality split between Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor.

The report also indicates that the two stars had a heated confrontation, and Puma says that the relationship was choppy because of a rift in the clubhouse based on who was actually leading the team.

Here is what a source indicated to Puma about the relationship:

“Soto is very businesslike— all business, no fluff. He wants to come to the yard and work his tail off and win games. He’s not into fashion or any of that stuff. Lindor is into that. It’s just two different personalities.”

Another quote from the report notes that Lindor may have lost some grasp in the clubhouse, as other members of the Mets did not fully understand who was leading the team.

The Mets had three bona fide superstars on their roster in 2025 in Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor, and Pete Alonso. It is concerning that there was some sort of disconnect between them, and it’s also concerning that these reports are being revealed just one year into Soto’s tenure with the organization.

Francisco Lindor has always been known as a colorful character. He dyes his hair, wears unique cleats, and his nickname is “Mr. Smile”.

Both Lindor and Soto Are in Queens for the Longhaul

Along with Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor is also signed long-term in Queens on a 10-year, $341 million deal that runs through 2031.

It’s hard to say that the Mets need anything more from either Lindor or Soto in 2026 in order to make the playoffs. Lindor hit 31 home runs, drove in 86 runs, and posted a 129 OPS+ last season.

And Juan Soto? He hit 43 home runs, drove in 105 runs, walked an MLB-best 127 times, led the NL in steals (38) and OBP (.396), and had an OPS+ of 160.

It’s not Soto or Lindor that need to perform better in 2026; it’s their surrounding cast members, but what is needed out of Lindor and Soto is continuity, and this isn’t a great offseason look for an organization that’s already expected to make wholesale changes.
