Micah Parsons’ Comments About Rams Draw Attention After Trade Request

The Los Angeles Rams are uniquely equipped to enter a potential pursuit of disgruntled Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons, whose trade request has sparked intrigue around his previous comments about head coach Sean McVay and outside linebacker Jared Verse.

Parsons, the No. 12 overall pick of the 2021 draft, posted a lengthy message on social media detailing how his relationship with the Cowboys has deteriorated over his contract.

His Rams comments raised eyebrows as a reminder that Parsons holds LA’s duo in high regard.

“I don’t think Sean McVay gets the credit that he deserves,” Parsons told Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love on “The Edge” in February. “You talking about a team that went all-in. They had Odell [Beckham Jr.], Von Miller, Leonard Floyd. You look – Jalen Ramsey – you look at that Super Bowl team, they were pretty much stacked. They went all in. They traded everything away. And then, after that year, they would kind of say, ‘We’re in rebuild mode.’

“[McVay] was like, ‘No, I’m not rebuilding.’ He took both those teams to the Super Bowl. He had that one down year, came back, but ever since then they’ve been a playoff-caliber team and, kind of, almost beat, made it to those NFC Championship Games every time.”

This Heavy Sports trade proposal follows similar deals and would see the Rams unload their warchest, previously presumably earmarked for a quarterback in the 2026 draft, to land Parsons.

The Rams have had one losing season in eight years under McVay. That came during quarterback Matthew Stafford’s injury-shortened 2022 season.

McVay has led the Rams to double-digit wins in six of eight seasons, and his nine in another.

Parsons’ affinity for McVay is encouraging for the Rams. That is, if they were to have an interest in a trade. The Rams have third-year OLB Byron Young, who led his position group on the team with 7.5 sacks in 2024. Still, a trade for Parsons could take the Rams to another level.

The Rams have two first-round picks in the 2026 draft thanks to their trade with the Atlanta Falcons in this year’s cycle. LAcould keep those picks until 2026, hoping to land a QB.

However, the Rams could offer them in a trade for Parsons in a package few teams can match.

Rams Could Form More Dynamic Duo

A trade to the Rams would put Parsons’ pass-rushing prowess alongside Verse. Parsons lauded Verse for making his presence felt as a rookie, using that to bolster his claims about McVay.

“Besides their Defensive Rookie of the Year that they just drafted this year [Verse], you can’t name me too many Superstar talents that’s on their roster, you know what I mean?” Parsons said. “True, that put him [Verse] up there where the Pat Surtains or the TJ Watts. They don’t – they drafted some this year, but you can’t tell me that’s not a well-coached [team]. I don’t think he get enough credit for that.”

Parsons went into greater detail about what makes Verse special in commentary following the Rams youngster being named the No. 53 overall player entering the 2025 season on the NFL’s Top 100 Players list.

Verse finished the 2024 season with 4.5 sacks.

However, he led the Rams with 33 pressures and took the final spot in ESPN’s poll identifying the top-10 players at each position around the league in July.

Cowboys Not Looking to Trade Micah Parsons

ESPN’s Benjamin Solak noted the hype around the Rams’ young defense did not match its production on the whole in 2024, and he “struggled” to judge the unit led by defensive coordinator Chris Shula, acknowledging Verse led the way for the pass rush.

“On one hand, the Rams’ defense was not great last season. It ranked 28th in EPA per play allowed and 24th in success rate; it gave up 2.24 points per drive, the worst figure for a defense that made the playoffs. L.A. got better as the season progressed, but it was never an above-average unit,” Solak wrote on August 1. “On the other hand, the personnel available was clearly that of a below-average defense, and I like what Shula did schematically.

“The Rams had one of the league’s lowest blitz rates, with one of the highest rates of dropping players off the line of scrimmage and into coverage.”

A trade for Parsons would eliminate some of that concern for the Rams and help Shula.

However, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told media members on August 2 that he has no plans to trade the four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, Parsons. That would leave the Rams and any other prospective trade destinations out of luck.
