Defeating the rival Buffalo Bills wasn’t enough for embattled coach Mike McDaniel. He had to twist the knife a little bit.
Yet, when asked about his viral trip to the Elbo Room after the Miami Dolphins‘ 30-13 rout at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, McDaniel deflected his reported taunts issued toward Bills fans when addressing the press Monday.
Located in Fort Lauderdale, about 20 miles up the road from the Dolphins stadium, the Elbo Room is one of the most famous South Florida bars.
Bills fans who couldn’t get a ticket to the game flocked to the bar en masse. McDaniel made certain to taunt those who remained there shortly after the Dolphins (3-7) won for the second time in their past three games — and less than two weeks after general manager Chris Grier was fired.
Miami will take on the Washington Commanders (3-7) at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in the Spanish capital of Madrid on Sunday.
Mike McDaniel Would Not Confirm Reports Of Him Taunting Bills Fans, But He Didn’t Deny Them Either
McDaniel confirmed he lives in Greater Fort Lauderdale, near the Elbo Room. But that was the only thing he would say about the alleged incident — insinuating the photo may have been artificially generated.
“I live in that area. AI is real,” McDaniel said. “That’s what I got for you.”
McDaniel also made sure to explain the joke, since we all know the best jokes are the ones you have to explain.
“For the record I did not answer it,” McDaniel said. “That’s the punchline of the humor.”
The fourth-year Dolphins coach also lamented the advancing the technology, though he may also have been expressing his gratitude for AI, since he could troll Bills fans outside a bar and blame it on AI.
“That’s why I liked the good old days, the throwbacks of yore, where you could trust the internet and the images,” McDaniel said. “That is pretty detailed. I do live in that area, but like AI, right?”
The Playoffs Aren’t Out Of The Question For The Dolphins
The Baltimore Ravens were 2-5 walking into Hard Rock Stadium against the 2-6 Dolphins less than two weeks ago. Yet, all of a sudden, it would seem plausible for both teams to make the postseason.
The Ravens’ road is conceivable due to their sitting just one game behind the first-place Pittsburgh Steelers for the AFC North lead. But Miami’s road is on the table since its upcoming schedule is extremely friendly, especially after its huge upset win over Buffalo.
Miami will take on Washington, who has lost five in a row and is likely to go with Marcus Mariota at QB, then have its bye. The Dolphins will then host the New Orleans Saints, play at the New York Jets before taking on the suddenly cratering Steelers on Monday Night Football in Week 14.
If Miami can win those games, it’ll close with a gauntlet of the Cincinnati Bengals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and a road game against the AFC East-leading Patriots in Week 18.
Nine wins may be enough to secure the No. 7 seed, and Miami has been a playoff team twice in McDaniel’s tenure.
