Miles McBride’s Status Takes Another Turn After Knicks Injury Scare

The New York Knicks are still searching for clarity on Miles McBride after his return from injury took another uncertain turn.

According to Steve Popper of Newsday, McBride is listed as questionable for Tuesday’s game against the Houston Rockets with a core muscle issue — the same designation he carried before his return.

The update comes just one day after McBride exited Sunday’s 111–100 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder in his first game back from a lengthy absence.

Same Injury Designation Raises Questions for Knicks Guard

The wording of the injury report adds a layer of concern.

McBride had missed 28 games after undergoing sports hernia surgery on Feb. 6, and his status is now tied again to a core muscle issue — the same injury classification used before he was cleared to return.

While the Knicks have not provided additional details, the overlap raises questions about whether Sunday’s setback is related to the original injury or a separate issue.

Injury Occurred in Return Game Which Ended in Knicks Loss

McBride’s latest setback came during a hustle play in the third quarter against Oklahoma City.

He dove for a loose ball and remained on the floor while grabbing his groin area before eventually limping to the locker room. He did not return.

The timing was notable, as it marked his first appearance since surgery.

Coach Mike Brown said after the game that he had not yet received a full update from the medical staff.

“I haven’t talked to medical yet, so I don’t know how it is, but it’s tough,” Brown said, via Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News. “He’s worked his tail off to be back… you felt his presence and he made us deeper.”

Impact Beyond the Box Score

Despite finishing scoreless in 11 minutes, McBride contributed in other ways, recording one rebound, one assist and one block.

His return was expected to bolster New York’s perimeter defense and provide added depth in the backcourt.

Before the game, Brown emphasized McBride’s importance.

“Deuce was one of our best on-ball defenders, especially when it comes to the pick and roll,” Brown said. “He’s quick and he’s strong, gets over screens well.”

Key Rotation Piece for Knicks

Before his injury, McBride had emerged as one of the Knicks’ most reliable role players.

He was averaging 13.0 points, 2.8 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 42% from three-point range.

His ability to space the floor and defend at the point of attack made him a key part of New York’s rotation.

Timing Matters With Playoffs Near

The Knicks (48–27) are in the final stretch of the regular season, currently sitting third in the Eastern Conference.

Maintaining depth will be critical as they compete for playoff positioning, particularly against teams with strong guard play.

McBride’s status now becomes a key variable ahead of Tuesday’s matchup against the Houston Rockets.

Outlook Remains Uncertain

Whether McBride will be available — and whether his latest issue is tied to his recent surgery — remains unclear.

For now, the Knicks are left waiting for answers.

And with the postseason approaching, any uncertainty surrounding a key rotation player carries added weight.
