Myles Garrett Takes Shot at Browns Coach Kevin Stefanski Amid Firing Rumors

As questions mount about Kevin Stefanski’s future, Browns star Myles Garrett offered little reassurance, avoiding a clear endorsement of the head coach ahead of the season’s final game.

Stefanski is on the hot seat entering the final game of the season. It’s unclear if the Browns will bring back the two-time NFL Coach of the Year after seven wins over the past two seasons. Garrett said he won’t offer his opinion but will provide it if asked.

“I play football. If they ask me, I give my opinion on whatever they ask me about,” Garrett said. “But I play football, and that’s what I like to keep my focus on.”

Garrett was asked directly if he’d be in favor of continuity and keeping Stefanski. He didn’t back his head coach.

“I want things to be successful, however that looks,” Garrett said.

When asked about his experience playing under Stefanski, Garrett stressed that the results of the last two years have not been sufficient.

“My experience has been like anything. Some ups and downs — unfortunately, more downs than ups. Would have loved to make a little more noise, especially this year with how well we’ve played on defense,” Garrett said. “It wasn’t in the cards. Have to continue growing and find ways to improve. This team has too many talented individuals not to.

“I don’t know what the future holds. Whether it’s with him or anything else. I’m looking forward to playing under whoever it is and to being happy to be here and a Brown.”

Browns DE Myles Garrett Focused on Competing for Super Bowl

Garrett demanded a trade this offseason, citing that he wanted to play for a contender. He ultimately settled on a four-year, $160 million extension with the Browns. But that hasn’t changed his desire to go to the “big dance” and play meaningful football in January and February.

“It’s not going well enough. We’re not going to the playoffs,” Garrett said. “That’s the end-all, be-all. You want to have a chance to get your team to the big dance and we didn’t do that.”

Garrett, 30, made it clear he is not interested in a rebuild.

“I’m committed to winning. As long as the team and organization are doing so and they’re committed to that same thing, then I’m all on board,” Garrett said. “But if we’re thinking other than winning — tanking or rebuilding — that’s not me.”

Browns’ Myles Garrett Remains Confident in Sack Record

Garrett enters Sunday’s game with 22 sacks, just a half-sack shy of the NFL single-season record held jointly by T.J. Watt and Michael Strahan. He was held without a sack against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 17 but is not lacking confidence heading into the finale against the Cincinnati Bengals.

“My confidence hasn’t wavered. I’m fully confident that it’ll come,” Garrett said. “You don’t think about what’s going to go wrong in your life. You think about how it’s going to go right.”

Garrett is not looking for a highlight reel sack to set the record. He’ll take it however it comes.

“They all count. I care if I run his (expletive) out of bounds,” Garrett said with a laugh. “However he gets got, he gets got.”

Garrett has sacked Burrow 12 times in his career.
