NBA Fans React to Detroit Pistons’ Cade Cunningham Injury Update

The Detroit Pistons announced a Cade Cunningham update on Thursday, April 2.

An official update from the team stated that Cunningham “continues to progress in his return to play process under the supervision of physicians and Pistons medical and performance staff.”

The team is planning for another evaluation in one week (April 9).

On Thursday, the Pistons are hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves. After that matchup, they will have four more games remaining in the season. With Cunningham guaranteed to miss one more week, he would have just two games left to return.

The Pistons remain unclear on a return date for Cunningham, although they are certainly hoping to have him back for the NBA Playoffs, if anything.

Here’s what NBA fans on Reddit are saying after the latest Cade Cunningham update.

“Playoffs can be different. I’d like to have him round one, I wouldn’t say it’s an automatic win without him,” 2IWontBeHereLong wrote.

“Not that I don’t have faith in this team, but I have doubts about this teams ability to win a 7 game series without Cade” another fan added.

“im not sure anyone is worried about him missing round 2 onwards….round 1 starts april 18, a little over 2 weeks from now. i just hope when he returns his lung capacity is where it was at because his conditioning has been fantastic this year and could it could hurt to have him out there but more tired than usual,” bamboointheback added.

“I mean we know the pistons hold information close to the vest but this sounds like he’s on track in his recovery which is all we can ask for. I imagine the update would sound different if there was a snag in his recovery,” says DetroitSportsPhan.

“All I hope is he’s ready for at least some of round one. I think this team could take a first round series but they definitely need help,” tarunpopo stated.

When Cade Cunningham went down with a collapsed lung, he was relevant in the MVP race. It was unclear how much his absence would affect the Pistons.

The Pistons have been strong without Cunningham as a whole. Beyond his current stretch of absences, the Pistons have an 11-4 record without the star guard on the court.

Still, the team and its fan base would feel a lot more comfortable with Cunningham in the mix as early as possible for the playoffs.

Detroit is on pace to lock up the top seed in the Eastern Conference. Their first-round opponent won’t be decided until the NBA Play-In Tournament concludes.

The Pistons will begin their playoff run later this month.
