New Details Emerge After Police Arrest Ex-Broncos QB Mark Sanchez

Amid an outpouring of support, former Denver Broncos quarterback Mark Sanchez has been identified as an instigator in the altercation that resulted in his hospitalization with apparent stab wounds in an Indianapolis hospital.

Moreover, police arrested Sanchez for his role in the act.

It is a rapidly developing plot twist. His employer, Fox Sports, one of his former teams, and even old colleagues all weighed in on the initial reporting about the situation.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department released its first update on the incident, which was under investigation at last check.

“After further investigation and following consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, IMPD arrested 38-year-old Mark Sanchez for his alleged role in this incident. Sanchez was arrested at the hospital for battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, all which are misdemeanors. All involved parties have been identified, and no further individuals are being sought by detectives,” the IMPD posted on October 5.

“Sanchez is still in the hospital and has not been booked into the Adult Detention Center.”

“The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision. An arrest is merely an accusation, and Sanchez should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law,” the IMPD’s second notice continued.

“IMPD does not release probable cause affidavits. Those must be obtained from the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office or Marion County Clerk’s Office.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter initially reported that Sanchez was stabbed in an attempted robbery.

Support for Mark Sanchez Strong Before Details Emerge

Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel was among the many to show support for Sanchez, who was with the Broncos for a brief period in 2016.

“Holy cow. Prayers with Mark,” Daniel, now an analyst for The Athletic, posted in response to Fox Sports’ statement, which requested the public to “respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”

Daniel was not alone.

“Damn man … Prayers up for my guy and USC brother Mark Sanchez,” former NFL wideout and current Fox Sports analyst Keyshawn Johnson posted, along with TMZ’s post on the matter.

Sanchez also received well-wishes from the New York Jets. New York selected Sanchez with the No. 5 overall pick of the 2009 draft.

“Mark Sanchez is a good person, somebody you want as a teammate in life or on the field,” Jets head of news strategy Eric Allen posted. “He is also a husband and a proud father. This is shocking and sad news, but stable is a good sign. (Prayers) for our friend and love to his family. Mark’s positivity is his enduring trademark.”

Even former colleagues in the media industry weighed in.

“Trying not to freak out, but praying fervently for Mark’s healing,” former NFL player and Fox Sports host Emmanuel Acho posted. “Praying for his wife Perry’s peace in the midst of this chaos, and praying for his whole family. Mark is one of the greatest men you’ll ever know. Love you, Mark Sanchez.”

Fox will carry two Broncos games this season. One is in Week 12 on the road against the Houston Texans. The other is in Week 16 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Networks determine broadcast crews during the week leading up to the game. Still, it is unclear if Sanchez will be available to call the Broncos’ game. He could also face repercussions as a result of his arrest.

Sanchez intended to call the Las Vegas Raiders against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 5.
