New Prediction Has Kyle Tucker Landing With New York Mets This Offseason

The New York Mets have had a tough six months.

First, the team absolutely collapsed during the 2025 season after getting out to a huge lead in the NL East. They missed the playoffs entirely, despite having the second highest payroll in MLB.

Then they lost two fan-favorites in to free agency in Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz. Steve Cohen and David Stearns have made a couple of minor signings, grabbing Luke Weaver and Devin Williams from the Yankees, but they haven’t made a big splash like they did last offseason when they signed Juan Soto to a massive deal.

So Mets fans, I know it’s been a rough stretch for your team. But, if you want to carry a little bit of hope for your team through the Christmas season, there may be some good news on the way.

New Prediction: Kyle Tucker Signs With Mets

According to Aaliyan Mohammed of Newsweek, the Mets may have snuck into the Kyle Tucker sweepstakes and begun courting the top free agent on the market.

Mohammed brings up the other teams reportedly interested in Tucker, and the reasons they may not have the facilities to sign him:

“The Blue Jays have shown that they are willing to spend big this offseason and may have the edge to sign him,” Mohammed wrote. “Meanwhile, the spend-happy Dodgers are reportedly not willing to make him a long-term offer. The Yankees seem to be focusing on Cody Bellinger and the Phillies may have already pivoted off Tucker by signing Adolis García to a one-year deal.”

When you combine the money already spent by other teams who are or were interested in Tucker with the Mets penchant to spend big on free agents, this proposal doesn’t seem far-fetched.

The 28-year-old is projected to command a value of 10 years at $40 million per season, making the contract worth nearly half a billion dollars. The Mets signed Juan Soto to an insane 15 year, $765 million dollar contract last season; while that may cause some to think the Mets wouldn’t make another big signing, I would venture to guess that it’s a sign that Mets’ ownership doesn’t care how much they spend.

The Prediction to Bring Tucker to New York

Here’s Mohammed’s official prediction:

“Steve Cohen and the Mets are not going to go an entire offseason watching star free agents sign with other teams,” he wrote. “The Mets still have Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor, and are not in a position to go into a rebuild. They get back to their spending ways by outbidding the Blue Jays by $30 million, creating a core of Soto, Lindor, and Tucker for years to come.”

If they do sign Tucker to a deal worth $40 million per season, that would put their 2026 payroll well over $100 million on Tucker and Soto alone. But there’s no salary cap in baseball, and Cohen and co. don’t seem to mind paying the luxury tax penalties.

Is it likely the Mets grab Tucker? Probably not.

But why not believe in something? Mets fans need it.
