NFL Analyst Totally Gets It Wrong About Lions QB Jared Goff

The Detroit Lions are one of the top contenders in the NFL right now, and they’ve worked for it. After scraping by as the laughing stock of the NFL for years, or decades, the only ones laughing now are the Lions, and it feels really good. The team has a 3-1 record following their win over the Cleveland Browns last weekend, and next up, they take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 5.

One of the biggest factors in the Lions staying on top this season is quarterback Jared Goff. He’s often really underrated, especially when it comes to fantasy football picks, in this girl’s opinion. So, one would think that this season would finally turn that around and that Goff would finally be getting a ton of respect, right? Not so fast.

One NFL analyst has come out with his latest quarterback rankings, and they leave much to be desired when it comes to the Detroit Lions‘ signal-caller. He got it wrong, but, of course, it’s just his opinion.

Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff Needs More Respect

Goff is having a fantastic season with the Detroit Lions, and that’s translated into wins. Nick Shook of the NFL’s website has a piece out naming the best quarterbacks going into Week 5, published on Thursday, October 2.

In the piece, he doesn’t put Goff in the top tier of quarterbacks in the league. He has Goff at No. 9, behind Matthew Stafford, Baker Mayfield (say what?!) and Dak Prescott, among others. He doesn’t even mention Goff in the piece.

Listen. I’m sure Shook is a nice guy, and he obviously knows his stuff about football. But, I think he got it way wrong with this one. Goff should absolutely be above Stafford and Mayfield, at the very least, in this tally, and he certainly deserves some ink in the feature. Contact me and let me know what you think.

On a Better Note for Jared Goff

At least someone else got it right. In a piece out on Wednesday, October 1,

Ever since Detroit’s tough start against the Packers, Goff’s been locked in as the machine-like pocket passer he is when provided decent protection,” he says. “He’s hitting close to 74% of his throws while driving the NFL’s top-scoring attack.”

He also adds that, “No matter how you slice it, the guys who touch the ball on just about every play make a difference.”

As for power rankings, in the NFL’s latest power rankings going into Week 5, out on Tuesday, September 30, Eric Edholm of the NFL’s website puts the Lions at No. 3. So, it sounds like three is a lucky number for the team.

“Detroit was not prolific offensively against Cleveland, but no one has been this season,” Edholm says. “Still, this is the second time in four games where the Lions have been kept somewhat grounded on offense, even if they’ve taken good care of the football. Committing five offensive penalties was out of character, and Detroit’s still trying to hone the connection between Jared Goff and Jameson Williams.”

It’s certainly a great time to be a Lion and in the Motor City. Let’s get over this next hump of games and fast-forward to the playoffs.
