NFL Announces Punishment for 4 Commanders Players After Loss to Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks handed the Washington Commanders a convincing 38-14 loss in Week 9. Moreover, four players from the Commanders team will face fines, with one of them facing a $100,000 fine.

On November 8, the NFL published its Gameday Accountability for Week 9, with the Commanders’ Tyler Biadasz, Frankie Luvu, Jordan Magee, and Chris Paul all receiving fines in the loss to the Seahawks.

When a fine is issued, players are informed of the violation and have the option to appeal. Appeals are reviewed by officers, including former NFL players Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, and Jordy Nelson, who are jointly selected and compensated by the NFL and NFLPA. Ultimately, their rulings are final and binding.

Luvu received the heftiest of fines from the NFL as the Commanders player was penalized $100,000 for an unnecessary roughness due to a hip-drop tackle incident in the first quarter at the 8:01 minute mark. Moreover, this was the largest fine any NFL player received on the list of fines for Week 9.

What Other Commanders’ Players Received a Fine?

Luvu was the headliner, in a bad way, for the list of fines, but he wasn’t alone. Biadasz was next on the list of Commanders to receive a financial penalty, as his fine from the league was $17,389 for an unnecessary roughness play due to a blindside block in the first quarter at the 12:55 minute mark.

The other two players on the list of fines from the NFL are Magee and Paul. Let’s start with Paul, since his fine was larger and was for unnecessary roughness due to a facemask incident in the second quarter at the 13:14 minute mark. As a result, the league is fining Paul $6,256.

Finally, the last player to garner a fine from the Commander was Magee, and due to the sums that two of his teammates received, he might feel that he got off lucky. Magee was fined for unsportsmanlike conduct due to a taunting incident in the fourth quarter at the 7:07 minute mark. As a result, the NFL is fining him $5,848.

A Seahawks Player Also Received a Fine From This Game

The Commanders weren’t the only team to have players receive fines in this contest against the Seahawks, as Seattle had one player earn a financial penalty as well.

For Tariq Woolen, the league is fining him for unsportsmanlike conduct during an incident in the fourth quarter at the 10:46 mark. As a result, the NFL is fining the Seahawks player $11,593.

Nonetheless, with Seattle securing the win and placing itself as a serious Super Bowl contender in the NFC, along with a tight race for the NFC West division, Woolen might be okay with the fine.

As for the Commanders’ players, Washington sit at 3-6 heading into Week 10, and their playoff aspirations look to be over in a competitive NFC. Furthermore, there’s the injury to Jayden Daniels that he suffered in the loss to the Seahawks, so these fines on the Washington players will likely be seen as bad news on top of a bad season that the team is experiencing.
