NFL Announces Punishment for 49ers Star Before Browns Game

After the San Francisco 49ers beat the Carolina Panthers 20-9 at Levi’s Stadium on November 24, Tre’von Moehrig and Jauan Jennings ended up in a postgame confrontation.

With less than three minutes remaining, Moehrig delivered a low blow to Jennings, leading Jennings to strike back as the players met for postgame handshakes.

On November 29, the NFL published its Gameday Accountability report, and Jennings made an appearance for his actions in Week 12. The league announced that the Niners’ wideout was fined for unnecessary roughness for the fourth-quarter incident at the 0:37 mark, which falls under the striking, kicking, tripping, and kneeing category.

As a result, the NFL is fining Jennings $12,172. The 49ers standout will be able to play in the Week 13 game against the Cleveland Browns; he’ll just be a little light in his wallet.

49ers’ Jauan Jennings Gets Off Easy

Jennings received the lighter punishment of the two players, as Moehrig was suspended for one game by the NFL on November 25. Nonetheless, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported, citing a source, that Moehrig will appeal the one-game suspension.

Moreover, Schefter reveals that Morhrig’s appeal will be heard and decided upon by either Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson, the hearing officers jointly appointed and compensated by the NFL and NFLPA to decide appeals of on-field player discipline.

After the game, Moehrig spoke with reporters to offer his side of the altercation.

“I mean, nothing ever dirty in my game has ever been like that unless it was earned, you know what I’m saying? I guess you could say,” Moehrig told reporters (h/t Carolina Blitz). “… It just manifested. Like I said, [Jennings] wanted to do some stuff after the play talking crazy. So that’s all it is… We ain’t got to share all [the details about what happened during the game]. But I guess that’s really all it is to it. There’s nothing else to this.”

Meanwhile, Jennings didn’t hold back when asked whether the tension with Moehrig had been building throughout the game.

“Man, TV is going to tell you what happened,” Jennings told reporters after the win (h/t NBC Sports Bay Area). “I was just responding, to me, to some childish behavior. That’s all it was.

“It was just out of nowhere. Like I said, just the history of me playing ball. I play hard. I’m physically stronger than lot of DBs out there, so a lot of things happen in between the whistle, at least with me.”

The Niners Will Look for Third Straight Win

After their loss to the Los Angeles Rams on November 9, San Francisco responded with two straight wins. But as they approach Week 13, the Niners’ offense faces a stiff challenge against the Browns‘ defense, despite Cleveland’s 3-8 record.

In Week 12, the Browns crushed the Las Vegas Raiders, recording 10 sacks. San Francisco will have to navigate a pass rush led by Myles Garrett and a relentless defensive front.

Moreover, the November 30 matchup between the Browns and 49ers will be played in windy conditions.

Morning rain showers are expected to change to snow as the day progresses. Temperatures will climb to about 39 degrees, with southwest winds ranging from 25 to 35 mph and even stronger gusts at times. There is also a 60 percent chance of precipitation.
