NFL Announces Punishment for Bears Player Who Injured Bengals RB

The Chicago Bears saw the league penalize one player for on-field misconduct in the team’s 47-42 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals last weekend.

The NFL levied a fine of $6,111 to linebacker D’Marco Jackson for unnecessary roughness due to a hip-drop tackle he engaged in early in the second quarter, per the league’s Office of Gameday Accountability.

Jackson, who does most of his work on special teams, made the tackle against Bengals backup running back Samaje Perine during a kickoff return following a Bears touchdown that put Chicago up 14-10. Perine suffered an ankle injury on the play and exited the contest soon thereafter. He did not return.

The Bengals are on a bye in Week 10 and ESPN currently lists Perine as questionable moving forward.

Bears Have Path to Playoffs in Head Coach Ben Johnson’s First Season

The Bears host the New York Giants in Week 10 in what could prove a crucial game for Chicago’s chances at a playoff berth in January.

Chicago moved to 5-3 after besting the Bengals, but faces a difficult road down the second half of the season. Aside from New York Sunday, the only other opponent that currently has a losing record on the Bears’ schedule is the Cleveland Browns, who visit Soldier Field on December 14.

The Bears remain an underdog to earn a spot in the postseason in Ben Johnson’s first year as head coach, though a win against the Giants would put them in position to tip the odds in their favor.

Bears Have Exploded Into One of NFL’s Best Rushing Attacks

Chicago has established itself as one of the best rushing offenses in the NFL this season after starting the year particularly poorly in that regard.

The turnaround began one month ago, when starting running back D’Andre Swift tallied 100-plus-yard games against the Washington Commanders and New Orleans Saints in Weeks 6 and 7, respectively.

Chicago lost to the Baltimore Ravens the following week, as the offense produced just 16 total points. However, rookie running back Kyle Monangai put up 176 yards rushing in his first-ever NFL start against the Bengals in Week 9 while filling in for Swift, who was out with a groin injury. Monangai’s total was a team-high in 2025.

It was the Bears’ fifth victory in six contests and bumped the team’s average up to 144.4 rushing yards per game, which is second in the league heading into Week 10. Chicago is tied for third in the NFL at 378.4 total yards per contest after putting up 576 yards of offense in Cincinnati last week.

Swift could miss Sunday’s contest against the Giants with a “personal issue,” which would mean Monangai’s second consecutive start.

“Hey, I appreciate everybody in this room, man,” Monangai told his teammates in the locker room following the game in Cincinnati. “It was my first start. Nobody knew what I was gonna do, but I told ya’ll I was gonna step up to the plate. Whatever I gotta do to get the next one.”
