The Las Vegas Raiders suffered a challenging loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 10. However, one player from the Silver and Black was hit with a financial penalty as they will be feeling a double defeat after the NFL announced its fines for Week 10 on November 15.
When a player is fined, they are informed of the violation and have the option to appeal. Appeals are handled by a panel that includes officers and former NFL players Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson, all of whom are appointed and paid jointly by the NFL and the NFLPA. Furthermore, their rulings are final and cannot be challenged.
As for who was fined on the Raiders, it was the team’s running back and kick returner, Dylan Laube. The 25-year-old received a financial penalty from the league due to a play in the fourth quarter at the 13:01 minute mark for an incident that they deemed unnecessary roughness.
Laube issued a blindside block during a play, and as a result of this incident, the NFL is fining him $5,549.
Raiders’ Special Teams Will Have a New Voice
Laube can’t get lost in dwelling on his fine because the player has to adapt to a new situation heading into the Week 11 game against the Dallas Cowboys.
On November 7, the Raiders announced the firing of special teams coordinator Tom McMahon, with assistant special teams coach Derius Swinton II taking over on an interim basis.
As a result, this “Monday Night Football” game against the Cowboys will be Swinton’s first contest in charge of the unit that has struggled this season with several mishaps that have fueled their 2-7 record.
The most recent mishap came in Week 10 against the Broncos, after Broncos safety JL Skinner blocked AJ Cole’s punt from deep inside the Raiders’ territory. Denver recovered and drove down the field to kick a go-ahead field goal.
Raiders Will Face a New-Look Cowboys Defense
While the Raiders’ struggles this season have been in all three phases, their Week 11 opponent, the Cowboys, have had issues on defense.
Nonetheless, the Cowboys made moves before the NFL trade deadline, trading for Logan Wilson and Quinnen Williams. The Raiders will now face a revamped defense, with these two expected to play pivotal roles in containing the Las Vegas run game, which features rookie running back Ashton Jeanty.
Ahead of the November 17 matchup, Jeanty spoke with reporters about taking on the Cowboys’ defense and looking for opportunities to exploit gaps in their run game.
“Yeah, [the Cowboys] got some great players,” Jeanty said on November 11. “They just added Quinnen Williams in the interior. So, I’m sure that’ll level up their front. And, just a good all-around team. But, there’s definitely places where we can attack them and make great plays.”
Moreover, Jeanty noted the issues that someone like Williams will give them as they look to establish the run.
“Just another guy in the interior to be disruptive. I mean, he’s a game wrecker. So, we got to be ready for him. We just prepping kind of for whoever’s going to be out there. Obviously they’ve made some changes, so we’ll just prepare for that.”
