NFL Announces Punishment for Raiders Star in Loss to Jaguars

It was a challenging Week 9 for the Las Vegas Raiders as they lost in overtime to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Moreover, it was a tough afternoon for the Silver and Black’s defense, which couldn’t get a key stop down the stretch in the game.

Along with the 30-29 loss, though, one player on the Raiders defense will be a little light in his wallet after the NFL announced its fines for Week 9.

Players are informed of any violations and have the option to appeal. Appeals are reviewed by officers and former NFL players, including Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, and Jordy Nelson, all of whom are jointly appointed and compensated by the NFL and the NFLPA. Consequently, their rulings are final and binding.

For the Raiders, it was Devin White who will be paying a sum to the league after his actions in the loss to Jacksonville. On November 8, the NFL published its Gameday Accountability report, and White is being fined for unnecessary roughness for hitting, kicking, tripping, or using the knee in the fourth quarter at the 7:34 minute mark. As a result of this action, the league is fining White $6,500.

The Raiders’ Losses Continue to Pile Up

Las Vegas had a quick turnaround from Week 9 to Week 10 as they played on “Thursday Night Football,” losing 10-7 to the Denver Broncos. Moreover, with the defeat in Denver, Raiders head coach Pete Carroll is in unwanted territory.

On November 6, Josh Dubow of the Associated Press shared a stat on X that could raise questions about the future of the Carroll era in Las Vegas. The stat highlights that Carroll’s .222 winning percentage ties him with Dennis Allen for the lowest among Raiders coaches since Al Davis took over in 1963. As a result, the campaign could deteriorate further if this trend continues.

Could Firings Be Coming to the Raiders?

NFL teams are quick to make changes when things aren’t going as planned. Could this mean Sean Carroll’s time with Las Vegas ends after just one season while the team sits at 2-7?

If the team continues to struggle, rookies fail to find their footing, and all three phases of the team show slight improvement, Carroll could see his tenure come to an end prematurely. Still, NBC Sports NFL insider Mike Florio expects Carroll to keep his job, with offensive coordinator Chip Kelly more likely to be on the hot seat.

“I feel like it’s not sustainable between the two of them,” Florio said on the November 7 edition of “Pro Football Talk.” “And frankly, between the two, all due respect to Chip Kelly, I’m keeping Pete Carroll. I’m keeping Pete Carroll because Pete Carroll has accomplished things in the NFL. Chip Kelly has accomplished nothing…

“Chip Kelly has done nothing to prove that he’s got NFL chops. I was surprised they hired him. And again, was it a Brady hire? Was it a Brady recommendation? I don’t know. But I feel like when this season ends, one of those two guys is going to be gone between Carroll and Kelly. And my guess is it is gonna be Kelly.”
