NFL.com Sees Bears’ QB Caleb Williams Breaking Cursed Record

With the 2025 NFL season quickly approaching, NFL.com Columnist Jeffri Chadiha has an extremely bold prediction for Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams. He’ll throw for 4,500 yards and 35 touchdowns in his sophomore season.

“One thing that shouldn’t be doubted is whether he’ll become the first Chicago signal-caller to throw for 4,000 yards in a season,” Chadiha wrote. “Williams won’t just reach that barrier; he’ll blow it away, especially when considering all the advantages he has working for him now.”

The Bears are the only team in the NFL to never have a 4,000-yard passer, but that streak is likely ending soon.

Caleb Williams Is Poised to Shatter Bears Passing Records in 2025

Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, flashed elite talent in his rookie season despite being placed in less-than-ideal circumstances. With a shaky offensive line, a coaching staff in flux, and a roster still undergoing a rebuild, Williams still managed to throw for 3,541 yards and 20 touchdowns. These numbers came while frequently evading pressure, extending plays on the run, and trying to lift an offense that lacked rhythm and consistency.

After this offseason, the Bears have done everything possible to help their young franchise quarterback take the next step. Pro Football Focus’ Dalton Wasserman had this to say about the Bears’ moves this offseason.

“You could not build a better supporting cast than the Bears have done did this offseason. Between the play caller in Ben Johnson, the revamped offensive line with [Drew] Dalman, [Joe] Thuney, and [Jonah] Jackson. You’ve added Colston Loveland, one of the premier tight ends in the draft. You added Luther Burden, one of the premier slot receivers in the draft to replace Keenan Allen. The only thing this team really didn’t do this offseason was add a starting caliber running back, but they are going to go with the committee of [D’Andre] Swift and [Roschon] Johnson and maybe Kyle Monangai too.”

With Johnson designing the plays and a supporting cast that can win at all levels on the field, Williams is set up for success in a way few young quarterbacks are. He won’t be asked to be a superhero on every snap, and he’ll be able to operate within structure and maximize his strengths: arm talent, anticipation, and creativity when needed.

History and Hype Collide

For the Bears, breaking the 4,000-yard barrier would be historic. But Williams isn’t just chasing Bears history, he’s chasing modern NFL standards. Quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, and Joe Burrow have had 4,500-yard seasons when healthy, and the expectation is that Williams will soon join that elite tier. His combination of arm strength, pocket awareness, and playmaking ability gives him all the tools to thrive in today’s pass-heavy league.

Of course, it won’t be easy. Williams is still young and will have to learn yet another offensive playbook. But he’s shown he can handle adversity, and with an improved infrastructure in place, things are looking up for him.

If Williams stays healthy and the Bears continue to support him as they have this offseason, he might throw for more than just 4,500 yards and 35 touchdowns.
