NFL Draft Analyst Provides Intriguing Solution to a Top Chiefs Issue

Sustaining a dynasty is an extremely challenging task. There’s a reason parity seems to be at an all-time high in the NFL. The Kansas City Chiefs‘ run of excellence is on the verge of ending this season, and it isn’t because of one isolated issue.

General manager Brett Veach has his work cut out for him if he wants to make Kansas City’s life easier moving forward. Several spots on the roster need addressing this coming offseason. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, they have a very finite bank of resources to improve with.

One of them, in particular, is drawing some attention as the 2025 campaign winds down.

Analyst Pushes for Chiefs to Pick Le’Veon Moss in 2026 NFL Draft

In a November 28 story, the Bleacher Report crew dove into all 32 teams’ most pressing draft needs. For Kansas City, the trio of cornerback, defensive line and running back was listed. It’s the latter that caught the eye of draft analyst Dame Parson. His solution is a Texas A&M standout with plenty of reps under his belt.

Parson believes Le’Veon Moss could be an appropriate fit with the Chiefs. Moss is the No. 72 overall player on B/R’s 2026 NFL Draft big board.

“Moss is a tough runner who excels when his shoulders are squared to the line of scrimmage, working downhill,” Parson wrote. “He runs well behind his pads between the tackles. He powers through arm tackles and pushes piles with his strong leg drive.”

Moss, a senior with the Aggies, has 314 carries on his ledger. He’s averaged 5.6 yards on those attempts, including a breakout 2024 campaign that saw him rack up 765 yards on the ground with 10 touchdowns. He’s also flashed a bit as a receiving option, having caught double-digit passes in 2023 and 2024.

An injury kept Moss out of Week 14’s 27-17 loss to Texas. He’s played in just six games this year, holding steady to his career average of 5.6 yards per carry while also racking up 6 touchdowns.

According to Pro Football Focus, among 292 FBS halfbacks with 50+ rushes in 2025, Moss’ 3.64 yards after contact per attempt ranks 77th. Parson views him as a potential Day 2 draft pickup.

Kansas City’s RB Room Certainly Needs to Improve

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to conclude that the Chiefs could benefit from an addition to the running back room. Rankings like team EPA/rush (fourth at 0.05) are buoyed by short-yardage success and quarterback Patrick Mahomes‘ scrambles. The offense is 16th in rush attempts and 15th in yards per carry, which still might be painting too pleasant a picture.

The club’s projected starter, Isiah Pacheco, has been rendered ineffective at times. He’s also battled injury, which is becoming a common theme for him. Per NFL Pro, among 48 qualified rushers, he ranks 38th with -13 rush yards over expected. Of 53 halfbacks with 50+ rushes, he’s 34th in EPA/carry at -0.07, via SumerSports.

Veteran Kareem Hunt is a helpful, albeit limited, piece. He’s the team’s leading rusher with 130 carries, 515 yards and 7 touchdowns. In that same aforementioned 53-player conglomerate, he boasts the lowest share of runs stopped for a loss (3.08%). On the other hand, he’s sixth-to-last in explosive rush rate (also 3.08%). He can’t be a full-time piece, especially considering he’s now on the wrong side of 30.

Rookie Brashard Smith has yet to realize the potential fans perceive him to possess. The seventh-round pick averages 3.0 yards per carry. He’s a more viable threat as a receiver, where he has 19 catches for 161 yards. He can’t be relied upon as a go-to piece in 2026 unless he showcases serious growth.

Perhaps adding Moss or another formidable running back from next year’s class makes sense after all.
