The Las Vegas Raiders fell to 2-9 after dropping their Week 12 matchup to the Cleveland Browns, 24-10, on November 23. Later that same night, the team relieved Chip Kelly of his duties as offensive coordinator.
With one of the worst records in football and no hope on the horizon other than a potential high draft pick, the Raiders are in no man’s land heading into the 2026 season.
Furthermore, there’s no future quarterback on the team, and there’s no guarantee one will be available to them in the NFL Draft unless they bottom out and get the No. 1 overall pick.
As a result, with the Raiders’ roster in its current state and an aging Pete Carroll as head coach, NBC Sports NFL insider Mike Florio is calling out Tom Brady for his role in constructing this team for the 2025 season.
“I’m just going to say this: The heat, the pressure, and the focus are going to be more and more on Tom Brady because Mark Davis is doing whatever he tells him,” Florio said on the November 24 edition of “Pro Football Talk Live.”
“Brady is partially responsible for the current state of the team. He was involved in the hiring of Pete Carroll. He was involved in the hiring of Chip Kelly. He was involved in the decision to make Geno Smith the quarterback.”
Tom Brady Has No Excuse for the State of the Raiders
Brady is a minority owner of the Raiders and also has other duties, such as his NFL color commentary job with FOX Sports. Nonetheless, Florio doesn’t see that as an excuse for his decision-making with Las Vegas last offseason, given how this campaign has gone for the team.
“It’s just not working,” Florio added. “That’s the thing, Tom. You want to do this, but you can’t clone yourself—one to be the Raiders owner, the other to work for FOX. If this doesn’t work, the blame falls on you.
“Nobody else, Tom, you’re taking the blame. It’s not working, and it’s splashing onto you. So don’t act like you’ve got a bunch of other things to do or that you’ve delegated. No, it’s on you if this team continues to stink.”
Shannon Sharpe Sounds Off on Chip Kelly After Firing
With the Raiders ending the Kelly era after 11 games, former NFL player Shannon Sharpe didn’t hold back on his take, especially given that the former Las Vegas coach tried to tweak what has been successful for a player in his career.
“[The Raiders] paid a lot of money,” Sharpe said on the November 23 edition of “Night Cap.” “They made him the highest-paid offensive coordinator in football. Alright, now let him go. If that works, you go back to college. You can have a great career in college.
“If that works, but you go ahead and try to change guys that have been doing stuff there [for their football career]. Because remember, the first thing he did [was] ask Ashton Jeanty to put his hands on his side. The man had been standing up [his] whole [football career].”
