The Pittsburgh Steelers have acquired Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey. But he wasn’t the only player involved in the trade.
As full details of the Ramsey trade to Pittsburgh surfaced Monday morning, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported the Steelers also acquired Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith.
To land both Ramsey and Smith, the Steelers agreed to send safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Dolphins. The two teams also each included a draft pick in the trade.
“It’s all one trade and it’s a doozy, with the Dolphins sending two key players who wanted new homes and/or contracts (Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith) to the Steelers for Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 pick swap that gives Miami an extra fifth-rounder,” tweeted Pelissero.
The draft picks involved in the deal are for the 2027 NFL Draft. The Steelers will send their 2027 fifth-round choice to Miami and acquire the Dolphins 2027 seventh-round choice.
The deal occurs after weeks of speculation that the Steelers could land either Ramsey or Smith through a trade this offseason. Pittsburgh landed both in the same acquisition.
Jalen Ramsey Gets Contract Adjustment After Steelers Trade
It’s rare for an NFL trade to involve three players, let alone three Pro Bowlers. Ramsey and Fitzpatrick also have multiple All-Pro nominations and have been Defensive Player of the Year candidates in the past.
But the new contract Ramsey received through the trade shouldn’t get lost in the shuffle.
Rapoport reported shortly after the trade that Ramsey will have a slightly different contract in Pittsburgh. His adjusted contract will include a $1.5 million raise for 2025. His new salary for this season will be $26.6 million.
