NFL Trade Proposal Sends Dolphins High Draft Pick for WR Tyreek Hill

The Miami Dolphins continue to appear committed to wide receiver Tyreek Hill. But that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from turning.

On Thursday, Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay proposed the Dolphins change their mind about a Hill trade and send him to the Arizona Cardinals.

Kay’s trade pitch involving Hill landed Miami a 2026 second-round pick from the Cardinals.

“Hill has had his share of issues in recent seasons with the Dolphins—including quitting on the team at the end of last season—but he’s a generational talent who has only missed the Pro Bowl and playoffs once in his nine-year career,” wrote Kay.

That one season was last year when Hill posted 81 catches for 959 receiving yards. His 11.8 yards per catch average was his lowest since 2021. Hill also tied a career low with six touchdowns.

But more than the disappointing season, the receiver became a trade candidate this offseason after his post-Week 18 outburst where he strongly suggested he would play elsewhere in 2025.

“I’m opening the door. I’m out, bro,” Hill told reporters, via The Miami Herald’s Omar Kelly. “It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I got to do what’s best for my career.

“I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there.”

Why the Arizona Cardinals Would Want Tyreek Hill

It’s important to note that Kay’s trade proposal of Hill to the Cardinals was from Arizona’s perspective.

With that in mind, it makes more sense. Of course the Cardinals would like to add a playmaker such as Hill to their offense.

“His presence would unlock Kyler Murray’s potential in an offense that could rate among the league’s best with Hill in place,” concluded Kay.

The proposal could intrigue the Dolphins because a second-round pick is a good return for 31-year-old speed receiver coming off arguably the worst campaign of his career.

But the argument for why the Cardinals want Hill on their offense also works for the Dolphins.

Just two years ago, Hill was arguably the best receiver in the league for Miami. He posted 119 reception with a league-leading 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns.

Financial Benefit for Dolphins Trading Hill

Pundits have pointed to a couple other reasons why Hill could be a trade candidate over the next couple weeks.

The Dolphins did some roster trimming of veterans this summer. Most notably, they dealt cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Trading Hill could be a similar move. It would also save the Dolphins money.

According to Over The Cap, Hill has a $15.85 million option bonus due on August 31. Miami could avoid paying that by sending Hill to another team before it’s due.

Teams around the league appear to be interested in a potential Hill trade. But The Athletic’s Jeff Howe reported on August 14 that the Dolphins “never showed” real interest in moving on from Hill this summer.

It’s highly unlikely that feeling would change before the season.

It’s not confirmed the Cardinals are one of the teams interested in Hill. But the Dolphins are likely to rebuff their offers or any interest from other teams.

Even if the offers include second-round picks.
