Nike Drops Brilliantly Simple Scottie Scheffler Ad After British Open Win

Don’t get it twisted: Even if golf and winning golf tournaments isn’t the most important thing in Scottie Scheffler’s life, his reaction winning the 2025 British Open proved it’s not just a hobby, either.

Scheffler effectively steamrolled the field for an historic win at the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. The victory, the second major win of Scheffler’s season, puts him just one win — the U.S. Open — away from the career grand slam. He’ll get his first chance to clinch that at Shinnecock Hills in 2026 … on his 30th birthday.

But before he chases that, perhaps even Scheffler will take a few moments to soak it all in. Scheffler went viral earlier in the week for his comments about where golf fits into his life and the mental anguish that comes with chasing greatness.

Nike Hits Right Note With Scottie Scheffler Celebration

Nike, Scheffler’s biggest sponsor, played off that with a simple but effective message to Scheffler after the final putt dropped.

Scheffler made plenty of headlines for his pre-tournament press conference. Asked about the longest he’s celebrated a win or contemplated a dejecting loss, Scheffler took things a different direction.

Scheffler Keeps Life, Golf in Proper Perspective

He spoke, largely uninterrupted, for the next five minutes or so about what’s actually important to him in life.

“Is it great to be able to win tournaments and to accomplish the things I have in the game of golf? Yeah, it brings tears to my eyes just to think about because I’ve literally worked my entire life to be good at this sport,” he told reporters at the press conference. “To have that kind of sense of accomplishment, I think, is a pretty cool feeling. To get to live out your dreams is very special, but at the end of the day, I’m not out here to inspire the next generation of golfers. I’m not out here to inspire someone to be the best player int he world because what’s the point? This is not a fulfilling life. It’s fulfilling from the sense of accomplishment, but it’s not fulfilling from a sense of the deepest places of your heart.”

Scheffler made it clear he’s motivated by trying to be the best and win golf tournaments and become an all-time great. It’s just not the primary thing that motivates him in life.

“I love the challenge. I love being able to play this game for a living. It’s one of the greatest joys of my life, but it does it fill the deepest wants and desires of my hearts? Absolutely not.”

Regardless of just how much it motivates Scheffler, he’s in rarified air. He’s now just one of 30 golfers ever to win at least four major championships, and just one of 19 to do so since 1930. It’s hard to believe, but he might just be entering his prime. Rory McIlroy, for example, just won his fifth major at age 37, meaning Scheffler could really climb the list if he plays anything like this into his 30s.

That’s assuming, of course, that’s what he wants to do.
