Orioles Call Up 6-Foot-3 Lefty Amid More Injury News

After a big offseason of spending, the Baltimore Orioles have had a rough start to the 2026 season. At the time of this writing, the Orioles have a 3-6 record and are fourth in the American League East. They have also lost each of their last three games, so there is no question that things are not going well for the Orioles early on.

Now, as the Orioles continue to struggle, they have announced some roster moves. One involves them calling up one of their depth pitchers from the minors, while the other has one of their right-handed pitchers hitting the injured list.

Baltimore Orioles Call Up Left-Handed Pitcher Cade Povich From Triple-A Norfolk

On Sunday, the Orioles announced that they have called up pitcher Cade Povich from Triple-A Norfolk. The 6-foot-3 lefty will now provide the Orioles with another pitcher to work with as they look to bounce back from their cold start.

Povich has appeared in one game this season for Triple-A Norfolk, where he allowed five earned runs and six hits in five innings pitched. While he had some struggles on the mound, he also struck out eight batters in his first start of the season from Triple-A Norfolk.

Povich appeared in 22 games during this past season for the Orioles, where he had a 3-8 record, a 5.21 ERA, and 118 strikeouts. This is after he had a 3-9 record, a 5.20 ERA, and 69 strikeouts in his first 16 career major league games during the 2024 season with the Orioles. Overall, the Reno, Nevada native has had some struggles at the major league level, but this latest call-up to the Orioles’ roster gives him the opportunity to try to impress this time around.

Orioles Place Right-Handed Pitcher Yaramil Hiraldo on 15-Day Injured List

In addition to calling up Povich, the Orioles shared that they have placed right-handed pitcher Yaramil Hiraldo on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to April 2. The Orioles also shared that the 30-year-old pitcher is dealing with right shoulder inflammation.

Hiraldo has appeared in three games so far with the Orioles, where he has allowed two home runs, three hits, four earned runs, and four walks. Overall, the 6-foot-1 righty has had a tough start to the season with the Orioles, and this latest injury news only adds to it.

Hiraldo appeared in his first 18 major league games during this past season with the Orioles, where he had a 0-0 record, a 4.58 ERA, and 21 strikeouts. He also had a 2-0 record, a 3.55 ERA, and 64 strikeouts in 30 minor league games split between Single-A+, Double-A, and Triple-A during the 2025 season.

Overall, being forced to miss time is certainly rough for Hiraldo, but he will be looking to bounce back once he gets back on the mound for the Orioles. In the meantime, Povich will be aiming to impress after getting this latest opportunity on Baltimore’s roster.

What’s Up Next for the Orioles

After an ugly series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Orioles are set to begin a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox on Monday. Baltimore will be aiming to turn things around against the White Sox, who have a 4-5 record on the season.
