Orioles Reach $10 Millon Contract Agreement with Starter Zach Eflin

The Baltimore Orioles are reuniting with a familiar face, as it has been reported by Jon Heyman of the New York Post that the Orioles are in agreement on a contract with starting pitcher Zach Eflin. It is a one-year, $10 million deal for Zach Eflin, who posted a 5.93 ERA in 2025 over 73.1 innings. There is also an option on the contract for the 2027 season.

This is yet another addition for the Orioles, who have had an active offseason. Mike Elias has come up big on all his promises, and while Eflin isn’t the flashiest signing, he should help with the Orioles’ pitching staff depth.

Orioles Re-Sign Zach Eflin to Continue Offseason Spending

The Orioles are reuniting with Zach Eflin, who has been with the club since 2024. Baltimore is being linked with all the top-dollar arms this offseason, and just swung a trade for Shane Baz. They traded away Grayson Rodriguez back in November and have since signed two top free agents in Pete Alonso and Ryan Helsley.

Baltimore is solidifying itself as a top AL East contender by their offseason spending. The Alonso deal is a $155 million value, Helsley’s deal is $28 million over two years, and now another $10 million to Zach Eflin.

With his productive season in 2024 with the Orioles (2.60 ERA over 55.1 innings), Baltimore clearly sees the upside in Eflin,  but he’s also getting to be injury-prone. He underwent back surgery in August, and his status to open up 2026 is unclear.

A reunion between the Orioles and Eflin always felt likely, as his market likely wasn’t very robust.

Zach Eflin Projected to be Back-of-Rotation Pitcher

Eflin spent seven seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies before landing with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2023, where Eflin was very productive. He led the AL in wins in 2023 and posted a 3.50 ERA over 177.2 innings.

It would be a relief for the Orioles if he were able to pitch at the start of the 2026 season. Even if it’s just as a back-end rotation arm. Other options in the Orioles’ rotation include Trevor Rogers, Kyle Braddish, Shane Baz, Dean Kremer, etc.

According to BaseballReference.com, Eflin is projected to post a 4.26 ERA over 112 innings next season.

It will be interesting to see if the Orioles are done making additions/subtractions in the player market. Elias is clearly all-in this offseason, and the Orioles have a chance at one of the best rosters in the American League if they add another top free agent or two. There is still a month and a half of the preverbial “hot stove” season.
