Paris Saint-Germain have released a statement confirming Ousmane Dembele sustained a hamstring injury during Tuesday’s Champions League win over Arsenal.

The French champions have one foot in the final after emerging from the first leg with a narrow 1-0 victory.

Luis Enrique’s side will be well fancied to complete the job at Parc des Prince this coming Wednesday, even though they may have to do without their matchwinner at the Emirates.

Dembele, who has enjoyed the best season of his career to date, scored the only goal against the Gunners, having also scored a decisive goal against Liverpool at Anfield earlier in the competition.

The former Barcelona forward was, however, forced off midway through the second half against the Gunners and will not feature in tonight’s Ligue 1 game against Strasbourg.

‘Ousmane Dembele has strained his right hamstring,’ a statement on PSG’s official website read.

‘His condition is progressing well. A further assessment will be carried out shortly.’

Enrique’s side impressed again against Arsenal, reducing Mikel Arteta’s men to chasing shadows during the opening half an hour when they could have put the tie to bed.

Understandably, PSG’s domestic form has tailed off in recent weeks with the league title already secured, but their Spanish manager insists it remains important to finish strongly and prepare in the best possible way for the second leg against Arsenal.

‘Our end to the season is atypical,’ he said. ‘We have achieved our league objective.

‘But it is important to take this match in Strasbourg as a test for the other competitions.

‘It’s always difficult to play away, even more so against this type of team. The motivation is there, we’re at the best moment of the season. It’s a very positive moment for the players and for everyone.’

‘Strasbourg has played at a very good level this season; they’re one of the best teams in this league. These matches prepare us for the other competitions.’
