A.J. Brown has been and continues to be one of the league’s most structurally sound and talented wide receivers. He could also be on the move after the season ends.
On multiple occasions this season, Brown has expressed frustration with the Philadelphia Eagles‘ passing offense and its overall effectiveness. While he has stopped short of making a trade request, he has made his frustrations clear, repeatedly. That discontent is why ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler named Brown a prime trade candidate next offseason.
“The weekly concerns about Brown’s messaging — from sonnets to sound bites — must be taxing on Philadelphia’s locker room, even if players understand the receiver’s frustration due to the limitations of the Eagles’ passing attack,” Fowler wrote on December 17.
“Several executives I spoke to believe the Eagles could look to move Brown, who is 28 and still has prime years left. … it seems that Brown would welcome a new passing game at this point.”
Would he welcome a trade to the Green Bay Packers?
Green Bay Packers Named Top Trade Fit for Eagles WR A.J. Brown
Mitchell Leff/GettyA.J. Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles could be traded in 2026. Should the Green Bay Packers be interested?
Mike Chiari of Bleacher Report thinks the list of Brown’s suitors will be long, should the Eagles decide to move on. He also thinks the Packers could be on it.
“Given his body of work and the fact that he is still in his prime at 28 years of age, Brown would undoubtedly generate a ton of interest on the trade market if the Eagles make him available,” Chiari wrote on December 17, before listing the Packers as one of them.
“Several teams in the playoff mix this season could use an alpha receiver like Brown moving forward, including the Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens, Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers.”
Brown’s skill set would compliment Packers quarterback Jordan Love quite well. Love has shown comfort attacking the middle of the field and pushing vertical concepts off play action, but the Packers still don’t have that coverage-breaking presence. Brown would fix that. The Eagles WR is a beast over the middle, and he’s better than anyone currently in Green Bay’s WR room.
Green Bay Will Have a Few Question Marks at WR Next Year
The Packers are expected to move on from Romeo Doubs after 2025, and they’ll still have Christian Watson under contract, along with Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks. Wideout Bo Melton is scheduled to be an exclusive-rights free agent in 2026, a manageable decision but another inflection point for roster depth.
Brown is under contract through the 2029 season after signing a $96 million extension in 2024, but he has an out in his contract in 2027. If they were interested in trading for Brown, the Packers would likely have to send a young wideout to Philly as part of the package.
But considering Green Bay already traded away its future first round picks in 2026 and 2027 for Micah Parsons, they probably won’t want to send more high picks to the Eagles in exchange for a wideout who isn’t happy despite his team’s repeated success.
Philadelphia has been to the Super Bowl in each of the past two seasons, winning at all last year. Brown still isn’t happy despite the team sitting at 9-5 and headed for the postseason again. The Packers already made one huge all-in move when they traded for Parsons. Adding Brown would undoubtedly make their receiving corps better, but would it be worth the drama?
