Packers Deliver Bad News on Jayden Reed Injury After Mystery Post

In his short time with the Packers, wide receiver Jayden Reed has made an impact, collecting a team-high 64 catches for 793 yards and eight touchdowns as a rookie in 2023 and coming back with 55 catches for 857 yards and six touchdowns in 2024. Questions persist about whether Reed is, or could ever develop into, a true WR1 on the roster, but the fact is, he was the most dependable option on the roster coming into 2025.

Then the injury bug struck. Reed injured his foot in training camp and determined he’d try to play through it. But when he broke his clavicle in Week 2 against Washington, it was determined that Reed would need to miss 6-8 weeks–and at that point, he decided to have surgery to fix his foot, too.

It’s been a lengthy absence for Reed, and with the Packers offense struggling for the past three weeks and attempting to get back to form, a jolt would be welcomed. And Reed’s return could be that jolt.

Packers ‘Excited’ to Get Jayden Reed Back

Certainly, Reed is hinting that he is ready for it, posting a photo of him in uniform on Twitter/X with no caption, a clear message that he, at least, thinks he is ready to go. And excitement certainly followed Reed’s mysterious message.

But before Reed can come back, he must have his practice window opened by the Packers. Once that happens, the team has three weeks to move him to the 53-man roster from injured reserve.

For any of that to happen, though, Reed must first be cleared by the Packers doctors and trainers. That’s where the process sits, as coach Matt LaFleur explained on Wednesday. Reed did not practice with the team, and his window remains closed–for now.

“As soon as medical clears him, then he’ll be out there. I know he’s excited to get back,” LaFleur said. “As am I.”

Josh Jacobs Day-to-Day With Knee Injury

The Packers have other injuries to contend with recently, too, most notably running back Josh Jacobs, who suffered a knee injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s win over the Giants. The good news on Jacobs is that the injury is a contusion, though a bad one. While there was initially concern he might need to be placed on IR, the Packers are instead holding out hope that he might be ready to play on Sunday.

“We have a plan,” LaFleur said. “He will not practice with us today. The plan is to try to get him healthy enough to go. You know, it’s just going to be a day-by-day thing. He is truly day to day, and we’ll see how he progresses as the week unfolds.”

Packers Confident in Backup Emanuel Wilson

LaFleur said the team remains confident in Emanuel Wilson if, in fact, the Packers do not get Jacobs back. Wilson had 11 carries for 40 yards and a touchdown with Jacobs going out in Week 11.

Wilson, of course, has managed to stick with the Packers for three seasons despite having been an undrafted free agent from Fort Valley State in 2023.

“It speaks to his development,” LaFleur said of Wilson’s production. “I can tell you, his rookie year, I was non-stop getting in his ear, getting on him pretty good. But it’s a credit to him in regards to being able to take coaching and to show up with a sense of urgency, every day.

“There was a lot to learn coming from where he came from to where he is now, but he embraced that, he has embraced the challenge. And he’s maximized his opportunities.”
