Packers’ Matt LaFleur Gives 1-Word Response on Christian Watson’s Injury Status

The Green Bay Packers are coming off a costly loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 15, with the team not only losing a game that hurts their chances of winning the NFC North division title, but also suffering injuries to two of their best players on both sides of the football.

The major loss was superstar linebacker Micah Parsons, who went down with what turned out to be a season-ending knee injury. The defense simply won’t be the same without their dominant pass rusher.

The other loss on the injury front was star wide receiver Christian Watson, who suffered a chest injury and was ruled out for the remainder of the game in the third quarter. The injury appeared severe enough to potentially sideline Watson for an extended period, possibly the remainder of the 2025 campaign.

The last thing the Packers saw was Watson down on the field in agony, which obviously wasn’t a good sign in terms of when he’d be able to return to the gridiron.

However, it appears Watson’s injury might not have been as severe as once thought, as he seems to be making progress this week, with Packers head coach Matt LaFleur revealing to the media how he feels about his star wideout after seeing him this week ahead of the Week 16 clash with the division rival Chicago Bears.

“Encouraging,” LaFleur said.

It seems as though LaFleur didn’t want to go into further detail about Watson’s status, as he only gave the one-word response.

“Just going out there, running around and making plays,” LaFleur said. “Ultimately, it is going to come down to, obviously, a medical decision, but where he’s at on Saturday.”

Considering the circumstances, this is a better-than-expected update from LaFleur on Watson and could mean the 26-year-old could be on the field to take on the Bears in arguably the most important game of the season for the Packers.

The Packers aren’t ready to clear Watson, and it could take until just before Saturday’s game to make a final decision on his playing status, which seems to be the case with star running back Josh Jacobs as well.

Watson did speak to the media earlier this week about his injury and how he feels moving forward.

“I mean, dodged a bullet with it,” Watson said of his injury. “I’m definitely in a better spot than I anticipated right away. Just going to battle through this week and see how it goes.”

Even though there’s a chance that Watson ends up getting ruled out for Saturday’s NFC North division showdown with the Bears, he seems to be in good spirits while feeling better than expected.

“I feel like I’m in a really good spot from where I’m at.”

Heading into Week 16, Watson has caught 28 passes for 481 receiving yards and five touchdowns, which are pretty solid numbers for a wideout who has played in only eight games so far this season.
