Packers’ Micah Parsons Calls Out Rival Eagles During TNF Game

The Green Bay Packers led a charge during the offseason to convince the NFL to ban the use of the so-called “tush push,” which the Philadelphia Eagles have turned into a cheat code in short-yardage situations over the past three-plus years.

Green Bay was ultimately unsuccessful in that initiative, though the league could potentially revisit the issue next spring. In the meantime, Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons — formerly of the Dallas Cowboys, who are among Philly’s biggest rivals in the NFL — took to social media on Thursday night, October 9, to rip the Eagles for once again taking advantage of the controversial play.

“This is not football!” Parsons wrote, posting two “trash” emojis to punctuate his comment.

Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts utilized the play during the first half of the “Thursday Night Football” showcase on Amazon Prime against the New York Giants. The Giants took a 20-17 lead into their home locker room at the break.

NFL May Not Revisit Tush Push Issue Next Offseason, Despite Falling Just 2 Votes Shy of Banning Controversial Play

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on September 20 that there is no guarantee that a referendum on the tush push will be back on the ballot next offseason.

League sources told ESPN that there are no assurances that the tush push issue will be brought up for conversation or a vote by the NFL this offseason.

One source told ESPN that, after the hotly contested conversation the play raised last offseason and the emotions it aroused, he believes the issue needs to be tabled for a year before it could be raised again.

There also is the practicality of another attempt to ban the play. Former Green Bay Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy authored the proposal to ban the tush push this past offseason, but he retired in July, once he reached the organization’s mandatory retirement age of 70.

A total of 22 of the league’s 32 teams voted to ban the play, which was two votes shy of the 75 percent needed for the initiative to pass.

Coming Off Bye Week, Packers Face Reeling Bengals Sunday

As annoyed as Parsons might be by the tush push, it isn’t going anywhere this season. As such, it makes more sense for the superstar pass rusher to turn his attention to his own team — particularly pulling it out of the two-week rut it fell into ahead of the bye.

The Packers started the year in impressive fashion with big wins over the Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders. However, Green Bay fumbled away what should have been a win against the Cleveland Browns in Week 3, then allowed 40 points to the Dallas Cowboys in what ended up a tie.

Green Bay (2-1-1) returns to action this Sunday at Lambeau Field against the reeling Cincinnati Bengals, who traded for former Browns starter Joe Flacco earlier this week. Flacco will start under center against the Packers for a second time in six weeks in a game Green Bay needs to have if it hopes to get back on track.
