The Green Bay Packers have had an up-and-down last few weeks.
The team lost one-score games to the Carolina Panthers, 16-13, and the Philadelphia Eagles, 10-7 — and both are games Green Bay probably should’ve won.
The Packers (6-3-1) rebounded with a 27-20 victory over the New York Giants last week that kept them in the race for the NFC North. Green Bay sits just a half-game back of the division-leading Chicago Bears (7-3), and a half-game ahead of the Detroit Lions (6-4).
While that Giants win kept Green Bay’s division championship hopes alive, it proved costly for one third-year defensive lineman.
Colby Wooden Disciplined by NFL

In the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game, defensive tackle Colby Wooden was flagged for a facemask penalty inside the red zone.
It resulted in the Giants getting a first-and-goal from Geen Bay’s 7-yard line, and they cashed in on a Jameis Winston 1-yard touchdown run three plays later.
Wooden finished the Giants game with 4 tackles, 2 run stops, a pressure, and a hurry on 48 defensive snaps, according to Pro Football Focus, but he also took a decent financial hit as well.
Though he was called for the infraction during the game, the NFL decided Wooden needed some supplemental discipline for his actions, and he was fined $6,789 on Saturday for the incident.
The NFL reviews all personal foul, unnecessary roughness, hit on a quarterback, and taunting penalties, among others, to determine which incidents warrant additional punishment in the form of a fine.
“To protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity, the NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed on a set of game-related rules violations that may result in accountability measures,” the NFL cites as the reason for the additional fines on its website.
Wooden can take solace in the fact that, though his wallet is lighter, his fine money will go toward a good cause.
“The fines collected are donated to the Professional Athletes Foundation to support Legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game,” the NFL stated.
Wooden isn’t the only Packers player to be fined this season.
Safety Xavier McKinney (taunting, Week 1), linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper (facemask, Week 2), linebacker Quay Walker (hit on a quarterback, Week 7), safety Evan Williams (hit on a quarterback, Week 9), and edge-rusher Micah Parsons (tripping, Week 10) have also been dinged by the league in 2025.
Packers Hitting Brutal Stretch in Schedule
Green Bay is heading into a crucial part of its schedule with three straight games against division opponents.
The Packers knocked off the Lions 27-13 in Week 1, but they haven’t faced any NFC North rivals in the 10 weeks since. That changes on Sunday when they host the Minnesota Vikings at Lambeau Field. They then travel to Ford Field the following week for a rematch with the Lions in Week 13 and host the Bears in Week 14.
The final four weeks don’t get any easier either as Green Bay plays the AFC-leading Denver Broncos in Week 15, the Bears again in Week 16, the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17, and the Vikings again in the regular-season finale.
