The Green Bay Packers will be presumed by many to be buyers, rather than sellers, as they continue what has been a strong, high-flying season.
After the Micah Parsons trade the team executed back in late-August, there was sustained buzz about the Packers being the team to beat in the NFC.
And whilst they have – on paper – managed to hit those expectations, as they currently sit at the top of the NFC North and the conference as a whole, a few of the more recent victories – against the Cardinals and the Bengals – have certainly been less effusive than one would hope for a one-loss team.
So a move for an interior defensive tackle, running back or corner all make sense as additions. But that does not mean that the Packers will not be willing to send unneeded players to greener pastures in exchange for draft capital.
Packers Given Prediction To Trade Offensive Lineman
In ESPN’s latest piece, in which they detail who teams may target or trade away ahead of the deadline on November 4, they argue that the one player that Gren Bay could move off of in the coming few days is former third round pick, guard Sean Rhyan.
A fact that, per Rhyan himself, seems apparent given the young, up-and-coming talent on the roster in the unit.
“Rhyan, a third-round pick in 2022, is in the final year of his rookie contract.” ESPN published on Wednesday. “He lost his starting spot to 2024 first-round pick Jordan Morgan (although they alternated series in the most recent game) and seems to know his time in Green Bay is running short. “If you just look at what we got on the line, I probably won’t be back here,” Rhyan said recently.”
Rhyan has been a mainstay of the Packers’ offensive line since the start of the 2024 season, where he started all 17 games. Now, the fourth year lineman is starting to lose his grip on the right guard position, which has recently had more snaps be given to 2024 first round pick, Jordan Morgan.
Would The Packers Want To Move Sean Rhyan Mid-Season?
Considering that Rhyan is one of two starters whose contracts are set to expire at the season, alongside left tackle and ex 7th round pick, Rasheed Walker, it is not clear what the Packers’ plan is for the group as a whole.
Unlike many teams, Green Bay drafts offensive linemen for versatility, and the younger players Green Bay has at the position in Morgan and rookie second round pick, Anthony Belton, are still figuring out exactly where they fit in best on the line.
Neither have shown ultra-impressive play early on in their careers, with both struggling at right tackle in place of Zach Tom earlier on in the season.
So whilst it is not set it stone, it still seems likely that Rhyan will not get paid by Green Bay, which opens the door for him to leave. If the team receive something in the region of a fifth/sixth round pick for his services from another organization, the Packers will be more than happy to move off him.
