Packers Sign Former Titans Rookie DT Amid New Injuries to 2 Starters

The Green Bay Packers are signing a new rookie defensive tackle to their roster for the final week of training camp after emerging from last Saturday’s second preseason game with multiple new injuries along their defensive line.

According to the team’s official transaction wire, the Packers signed undrafted rookie defensive tackle Devonte O’Malley on Monday in a series of final-week roster moves. He signed with the Tennessee Titans after the draft, but they cut him loose on August 3.

The Packers also signed defensive back Jaylin Simpson, released cornerback Garnett Hollis Jr. and waived defensive tackle Keith Randolph Jr. with an injury designation.

Randolph had stood out at moments in the Packers’ 23-19 preseason victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday, contributing a pair of second-down pass deflections. He had also tallied three tackles in the preseason opener against the New York Jets, which had put him in the conversation to earn a practice-squad role during the 2025 season.

Following Randolph’s injury, though, the Packers will turn their attention to O’Malley in the final week of camp and see whether he has anything to offer their 2025 roster.

Devonte O’Malley Adds Intriguing Athlete to Packers DL

O’Malley earned heaps of experience in his five seasons at Northern Illinois, appearing in 58 games and combining for 130 total tackles, 31 tackles for loss and 22.5 sacks while playing in multiple roles. He also closed out his career on a high note with the Huskies in 2024, hitting career-best marks in tackles (39), tackles for loss (12) and sacks (eight).

While O’Malley went undrafted in the spring, he tested well as an athlete at his pro day. He scored an impressive 9.2 RAS (out of 10) from his workout, running a sub-5-second time in the 40-yard dash and recording a 32.5-inch vertical jump that would have tied for seventh among the 2025 defensive tackle prospects at this year’s NFL Combine.

O’Malley will only have roughly a week to work with the Packers in practice before the 53-man roster cutdown arrives next Tuesday, August 26, but he could potentially earn snaps in their final preseason game, especially after the team lost Randolph to injury.

If O’Malley plays it right, perhaps he can earn a look for the Packers’ practice squad.

Kenny Clark & Lukas Van Ness Both Sidelined at Camp

The Packers had more than just Randolph missing from their defensive line rotation when they returned to the practice field on Monday for their final week of camp.

According to The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman, both veteran defensive tackle Kenny Clark and former first-round edge rusher Lukas Van Ness sat out during Monday’s practice with new back injuries. Rookie edge rusher Barryn Sorrell also joined them as a new non-participant at practice after suffering an apparent injury in Saturday’s game.

The Packers could have some depth issues to address in the weeks ahead if they have any long-term concerns about any of their injured defensive linemen. Clark and Van Ness are expected starters, while Sorrell and fellow rookie edge rusher Collin Oliver — who has missed all of camp with a hamstring injury — are vying for rotational roles.
