The Carolina Panthers are gearing up for an important 2025 NFL season. With Dave Canales in his second year as head coach, Bryce Young getting another season to develop, and a decent number of offseason acquisitions plus a solid draft, fans in Carolina believe they could have another season of steady improvement.
Panthers’ training camp has been relatively quiet in terms of news, but a big development is Pro Bowl cornerback Jaycee Horn getting into a car crash, which led to him missing a few days of practice. It’s already been reported that Horn will sit out a few days of camp, but Carolina’s coaches and front office are certainly going to protect their prized defensive back.
Jaycee Horn’s Car Crash Video Revealed
Horn signed a lucrative four-year, $100 million contract this offseason with $72 million guaranteed. The deal originally made him the highest-paid defensive back, but other cornerbacks this offseason have also signed lofty extensions.
In an Instagram post by “charlottedashcam”, there is newly released footage of the crash.
The video shows Horn’s black Mercedes SUV colliding with a black pickup truck as he went through a traffic light. The accident happened a few blocks outside of where the Carolina Panthers play their home games, Bank of America Stadium.
During Wednesday’s practice, Horn was seen doing individual workouts, but did not participate in the team’s practice.
Canales, the Panthers’ head coach, did provide the media with an update on the accident and potentially how long Horn could be sidelined:
“Yeah, I don’t have a lot of details,” Canales told reporters. “I’m glad that Jaycee was okay. He did have to have a few stitches in his left thumb area. And so, they got that all cleaned up sutured up. He’s day-to-day right now. We’re just gonna kinda evaluate. It doesn’t seem like anything else happened.
“But we’re just gonna kinda evaluate him each day. He’ll be able to still do some activity and running and all that. But he will not play this game. Hopefully, we can get him turned around so we can take advantage of an opportunity in Houston for that game, which was kinda the plan all along.”
Horn Himself Also Took to Social Media
The Carolina Panthers’ 25-year-old star cornerback also took to social media following the accident to provide an update on the injury.
It was already well-known that Horn likely wasn’t going to play much during the Panthers’ preseason games, but now Canales confirmed that belief for at least the first game. As for the second game against the Houston Texans, Canales said it’s possible he could be a go, just depending on how his thumb area heals from the crash.
Horn is one of the best Panthers’ overall players and likely their best player on defense. He picked up two sacks last season, had 13 pass deflections, and recorded an interception. Horn also added 68 tackles on the 2024 campaign. There’s no doubt he’s one of their most vital players heading into 2025, and the four-year extension also proves that.
