Patrick Mahomes and Chiefs Get Major News on Team’s Future

It’s been a difficult season for Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, and the team’s game against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, December 21 was no exception. Even though the Chiefs were already out of the playoffs going into the matchup, they were expected to have a good showing, but instead, Kansas City dropped the game with a painful 26-9 final score.

Now, the Kansas City Chiefs have a 6-9 record for the season, which is totally unlike this franchise. Of course, the Chiefs have been to and won the big game multiple times under head coach Andy Reid and in the Mahomes era, so it’s strange to have them not even in the playoffs.

So, with that in mind, it’s simply time for the franchise to look to the future. With that in mind, it’s appropriate that Mahomes and the Chiefs got huge news on Monday, December 22, that will impact this franchise. It doesn’t help close this season out any better, but it’s something.

The Kansas City Chiefs Announce Official News

It’s official: The Kansas City Chiefs are moving. The team will be moving from Missouri and Arrowhead Stadium to a new domed stadium in Kansas.

The team, Kansas governor Laura Kelly and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced in a joint statement from owner and chairman Clark Hunt that the team will be moving to Kansas City, Kansas, after a meeting of the Kansas Legislative Coordinating Council.

“Today we are excited to take another momentous step for the future of the franchise,” Hunt stated in an official announcement. “We have entered into an agreement with the State of Kansas to host Chiefs football beginning with the 2031 NFL season.

He added, “In the years ahead, we look forward to designing and building a state-of-the-art domed stadium and mixed-use district in Wyandotte County, and a best-in-class training facility, team headquarters, and mixed-use district in Olathe, totaling a minimum of $4 billion of development in the State of Kansas.”

The team will stay at Arrowhead Stadium through its lease, which ends in the 2030 season. It’s a huge change for the franchise, because the team has played there since 1972.

Not everyone was happy with the move, with one commenter stating on social media, “As a Chiefs fan, there is no better game day experience in sports than the tailgate and game day atmosphere that is Arrowhead Stadium.” But, it’s the third-oldest stadium in the NFL today, only behind the Chicago Bears’ Soldier Field and Green Bay Packers‘ Lambeau Field.

Hope for the Future of the Kansas City Chiefs

Kelly also commented on the change, stating that moving the team to Kansas “takes our state to the next level.”

“With this new stadium, we’re creating thousands of jobs, bringing in tourists from around the world, attracting young people, and most importantly, we’re continuing to make Kansas the best place in America to raise a family,” Kelly said.

It’s certainly the case that it will increase business in the state. Kelly added, “This is a game-changer for Kansas, and it’s a signal to America and the world that our state’s future is very bright.”
