Patriots Expert Identifies Trade Package For 6-Foot-3, 245-lb Pro Bowl Edge

The Micah Parsons saga in Dallas appears to be coming to an end, at least according to top NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN. Speaking on his podcast Tuesday, the ESPN reporter said that the Cowboys and their 2021 first-round draft pick — taken 12th overall out of Penn State — are now headed for an inevitable “divorce,” with neither side willing to compromise on a contract extension for the four-time Pro Bowl edge rusher.

On Wednesday, another podcaster and prominent commentator on all things Patriots identified what it would likely take to extract Parsons from the Cowboys and bring him to New England.

‘Divorce’ On Table For Cowboys, Parsons

According to Schefter, a Parsons-Cowboys “divorce” in on the table because communication between Parsons’ reps and Dallas owner and de facto general manager Jerry Jones have completely broken down.

“The Cowboys have come out and said what they said publicly at the start of training camp, which Micah didn’t like. Micah came out and asked to be traded, said he was ready to move on from Dallas, which I’m sure they didn’t like, and right now, both sides seem to be angry,” the ESPN NFL insider said. “You can’t get a deal done if you’re not even talking, and the two sides haven’t had any negotiations since late March or early April, and it sounds like at this point it’s personal.”

Patriots Do Parsons Deal ‘100 Times Out of 100’

The Patriots, who ranked dead last in the NFL in sacking the opposing quarterback with just 28 in 2024, should move quickly to acquire Parsons, according to Nick Cattles, host of the Locked on Patriots podcast, speaking on Wednesdays’ edition of the daily program.

“I’ll tell you right now, this is the deal that you make 100 times out of a 100. If you’re the Pats, you are absolutely interested in making this deal,” Cattles declared on the Locked On podcast. “If you find out that Parsons is available, you have to take advantage. You have to get involved. You cannot pass up a deal for that type of talent. Short-term, long-term, both, Parsons is an answer for you. And that’s why you have to absolutely go after this if it is there to be chased.”

But Cattles went a step further, identifying the specific trade package that, based on historical precedent, he believes would entice the Cowboys part with the 6-foot-3, 245 pound edge rusher — with whom for some reason they seem extremely reluctant to negotiate.

Mack Trade is Model For Parsons Swap

According to Cattles, that precedent is the 2018 trade of then-Oakland Raiders pass rusher Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears. In that trade, the Bears sent 2019 and 2020 first-round picks along with a 2020 third-round pick and 2019 sixth-rounder to the Raiders.

They got back Mack plus a 2020 second-rounder and conditional fifth-round selection.

In Cattles’ trade plan, then, the Patriots would give up their 2026 first round pick plus another “first, a third and a sixth. But you get back a second and a conditional fifth round pick. And I think you’ve got some wiggle room for the Patriots, because the Patriots have not one but two fourth round picks in 2026 and they have two sixth round picks in 2026.”

Those extra picks give the Patriots the ability to make draft day trades that would let them get back the third round pick they would lose to get Parsons.

The entire deal, however, would depend on the Patriots’ signing Parsons to the contract extension he desires, guaranteeing that he stays in New England for the long term, according to Cattles.
