However, Guardiola has now committed to the reigning Premier League champions for at least another year.
The Athletic claim he will put pen to paper on a new one-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.
Should the terms be fulfilled, it would take his time at the Etihad to over a decade.
Guardiola joined City back in 2016 following the departure of Manuel Pellegrini.
Over the last eight years, the Spaniard has won 18 trophies including six Premier League titles, the Champions League, two FA Cups and the Club World Cup.
