Phillies Predicted to Trade Alec Bohm to AL Contender in Surprising Move

The Philadelphia Phillies are predicted to make an intriguing trade with an AL contender.

Philadelphia is coming off a disappointing playoff exit to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Phillies are expected to make some major moves this offseason, but the team could also subtract from its roster.

MLB analyst Jake Storiale of Talkin’ Yankees predicts the Phillies will trade Alec Bohm and Orion Kerkering to the New York Yankees in a package involving multiple prospects.

“The Yankees have some talented arm prospects that are interesting,” Storiale said. “I don’t think there is anything on the Major League roster that Philly would really be eyeing. Bohm is projected to make around $10 (million) and Orion Kerkering is around the minimum.”

The trade does make sense for both sides as New York gets a versatile infielder in Bohm who can slide into the bottom of the lineup, as well as a reliever who could use a change of scenery.

Philadelphia, meanwhile, gets some pitching prospects they can use as trade pieces at the deadline or develop into MLB arms in the future. Neither Bohm nor Kerkering is considered a long-term piece for the Phillies, so trading both of them could very well happen this offseason.

Bohm hit .287 with 11 home runs and 59 RBIs last season. Kerkering, meanwhile, was 8-4 with a 3.30 ERA in 69 games.

Phillies Could Trade Bohm

Entering the offseason, Bohm’s name has come up in trade talks.

Philadelphia could look to shake up its MLB roster, and Bohm could be considered expendable. MLB insider Jon Morosi mentioned Bohm’s name on the trade front during the GM meetings.

“One trade they could make is Alec Bohm at third base. He’s been someone who has shown you All-Star level production, but the consistency has not always been there,” Morosi said on MLB Network on Wednesday about Bohm. …

“If the Phillies were to move Bohm, in my judgment, it would have to be because they think there’s a chance of getting a Bregman or they’re one of the teams potentially that could look at a Bo Bichette at a spot that’s not shortstop. There’s different ways they could augment their club, but you would have to have a clear upgrade on Bohm if you’re gonna go ahead and make that trade.”

If the Phillies do move Bohm, it would have to be for the right package. But Morosi thinks there is a chance they do part ways with him this offseason.

Philadelphia is Close to World Series

Although the Phillies were eliminated in the NLDS, executive Dave Dombrowski remains confident in his team.

Dombrowski plans to be aggressive this offseason as he believes the Philies are very close to beating the Dodgers and being in the World Series.

“We’re close to them,” Dombrowski said. “We battled them, and I think we’re in the same neighborhood. But we didn’t beat them, and we have work in order to do that.”

Although the Phillies did lose to the Dodgers, Dombrowski believes the team doesn’t need major changes to compete.

“Needs to be more change?” Dombrowski said. “We won 96 games. You’re always looking to get better, so we will be open-minded to that. There’s some built-in situations for us that are going to have to be addressed. So, where you go as a club is very much dictated on some of those moves that end up happening. We also have some young players that are going to mesh into our club.”

The Phillies won the NL East last season.
