Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona have joined Real Madrid in the race to sign Manchester City midfielder Rodri, according to reports.
Interest in Rodri has grown in recent weeks off the back of the Spaniard’s superb performances in helping his nation win the World Cup.
The City midfielder has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, but was back at his best in North America this summer, winning the Golden Ball after captaining his country to victory against Argentina.
Despite that, his future at City remains up in the air after the 30-year-old indicated his desire to seek a move this summer.
Speaking in March, Rodri, who has just one year left on his contract with City, admitted that he would find it difficult to turn down a move to Madrid.
And reports on Friday indicated that Real are now working on a deal to sign the midfielder, who previously played for rivals Atletico Madrid before joining City for £63millioon in 2019.
Club-to-club talks have yet to take place, but the Spanish giants believe an agreement can be reached, with personal terms not expected to be an issue.
But while Madrid are favourites to complete a deal, reports from French outlet Footmercato suggest that both PSG have now made an official enquiry about a move for Rodri.
Luis Enrique’s side are already brimming with talent in central midfield but they are now looking to bolster their options even further.
However, the report adds that PSG would have to put in a lot of effort to complete the deal, with Rodri particularly keen to return to Spain with Real.
Barcelona are also said to be interested in a move for the City midfielder, but the finances involved in any deal for Rodri may prove too much for the Catalan giants.
Speaking at his unveiling on Friday, Maresca said he was not surprised to see fervant speculation surrounding Rodri’s future.
‘Around big players there are always speculations so I am not worried about that,’ the new City boss said.
‘I think it is normal, also because they [Spain] won the World Cup and because he is one of the best players. I think every manager wants to have Rodri because he is a top player.’
Regardless of where his future lies, the 30-year-old is set to miss the start of the new season given he will undergo back surgery on Monday.
