Raider Star Gives Blunt Words on Potential George Pickens Move

The Las Vegas Raiders have a budding star at running back in Ashton Jeanty and arguably the best young tight end in Brock Bowers. While the Silver and Black teams need to sort out the quarterback situation in the long term, they also lack a No. 1 receiver.

After the departure of Davante Adams, the Raiders have yet to fill the role of a go-to wide receiver. Nonetheless, former Cincinnati Bengals star Chad Johnson believes that Las Vegas can fill that void next offseason in free agency.

Devin White recently appeared on an episode of “Night Cap,” and Johnson asked the veteran whether Dallas Cowboys wideout George Pickens fits being a Raider.

“I love what [the Raiders] have on offense, right?” Johnson said. “But I mean no disrespect to them boys, but we were just talking about next year, right? What you think about George Pickens over there in Las Vegas? Tell me that doesn’t fit. And you see, listen, stay with me, stay with me real quick. You see how Maxx Crosby being a Raider? It just fits his demeanor, who he is, what he represents.”

Those remarks led to a brief response from White as he agreed with what Johnson was proposing.

“He definitely got that charisma, you know, that swag,” White said.

George Pickens Talks About His Future Amid Raiders Link

Pickens, who joined the Dallas Cowboys in a May trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers, is on track to become an unrestricted free agent after the season. Over the past five games, he has totaled 32 catches for 525 yards and six touchdowns, a career high.

If Pickens scores again Sunday against the Washington Commanders, he would be the first Cowboys wide receiver to record a receiving touchdown in six consecutive games since Terrell Owens in 2007. This week, Pickens was asked about his future, knowing that if he keeps performing at this level, there will be plenty of suitors this offseason.

“I wouldn’t mind it,” Pickens said on October 15 about staying long-term in Dallas (h/t Todd Archer of ESPN). “The guys in the locker room are super cool. The energy is great. But, like I’ve said, I always want to showcase my talents, most definitely.”

Will the Cowboys Look to Lock Up George Pickens?

Pickens is expected to be one of the top receivers on the free-agent market if he becomes available. The Cowboys could also consider using the franchise tag on him.

On October 14, owner and general manager Jerry Jones avoided commenting on whether the Cowboys plan to start contract talks with Pickens, but he expressed satisfaction with how the trade has played out.

“In every aspect of it, he’s doing more than we did expect or that we could have expected,” Jones said. “And what’s really special is he’s a real plus to have around the team. He’s a real plus around his teammates.

“He’s a great plus around those coaches, and the coaches really think highly of him. So he’s not only doing it on the field, he’s doing it as part of the team concept, and that’s very important and, in his particular case, should be noted.”
