The future of Maxx Crosby could become clearer amid his uncertain situation with the Las Vegas Raiders. After the Silver and Black shut him down for the final games of the 2025 NFL season, speculation has run rampant on Crosby’s future in Las Vegas.
With free agency approaching and the 2026 NFL Draft right around the corner, now could be the right time for the Raiders to secure multiple picks for Crosby, especially if they feel their rebuild will take multiple years. As a result, it would be ideal for Las Vegas to secure draft picks to help in their rebuild for a player who would be past his prime once they are ready to contend.
On the March 4 edition of “Wake Up Barstool,” The Athletic’s James Palmer shared a bold take on the Crosby situation.
“I think there’s a chance that this happens this week, that he’s on the move,” Palmer said. “I think the reason that is, is you want to maximize things, right?
“If you’re [Raiders general manager] John Spytek, and I had a chance to have a conversation with him at the Combine, if you want to maximize this, you want to get it done before everybody else is bidding on edge rushers or spending their money or spending their cap money, and you have the ability to move him before that happens. I think that puts the Raiders in the best spot possible.”
Raiders Understand Rebuild Situation
Moreover, Palmer believes the Raiders know they are in a situation where it might take another year or two to turn things around, which is why the logical thing to do is at least listen to what other teams are willing to offer for Crosby.
“When I talked to John Spytek, he kind of told me, I don’t think they want to give [Crosby] up,” Palmer added. “I really don’t think they want that. But he told me, and this part was the most specific, I think, guys, he was like, we have to be sober with where we’re at. What he’s saying is, I don’t think this is turning around tomorrow.
“We know this isn’t, you know, a quick turnaround. So is Maxx Crosby going to be a part of that? Is his value that big in a year or two? His value is probably the highest it can be. And I think the Las Vegas Raiders do understand that. So they’re not actively shopping him, but teams are calling, and teams are interested.”
Raheem Mostert Weighs In on Maxx Crosby Situation
Nonetheless, the speculation continues among NFL media, and on March 2, Raheem Mostert was asked about Crosby’s future and whether the veteran edge rusher will remain in Las Vegas.
“Honestly, just knowing Maxx and everything that he brings to an organization, it’s tough to make that decision,” Mostert said on “Good Morning Football. “ “He’s a very loyal guy, one of the most loyal guys that you could possibly have on your team, and he’s wanting to get the job done. Everything that he does inspires so many people in the community and the organization. I know [Raiders owner Mark Davis] is in love with him and all of him.
“I know everybody loves him. But from a standpoint as a player, I’ve been there before. I’ve been on a losing team where it just didn’t work out. Sometimes you’ve got to think about that next chapter, that next step. It’s going to be interesting to see where he lands. Even if he leaves, it’s going to be interesting what the trade talks are going to look like.”
