Raiders TE Brock Bowers Dishes on Chiefs Rivalry Ahead of Matchup: Exclusive

It has already been a trying season for star tight end Brock Bowers. Not only has been missed the last two games due to a knee injury he suffered in Week 1, but the Las Vegas Raiders are already 2-4.

Despite that, Bowers is remaining positive. It sounds like he likely won’t be able to play until after the bye week, but he’s staying involved with the team. The Raiders have a very important matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7, and while Bowers is unlikely to play, he’s still looking forward to the rivalry game.

“I’m excited,” Bowers told Heavy Sports. “I mean, they’re a great team, and going there is always fun. Playing at Arrowhead last year was awesome, so I’m excited for the challenge and excited to see what happens.”

The Raiders were o-2 against the Chiefs last season, but played them close. When the team traveled to Kansas City, Bowers had an incredible game, catching 10 passes for 140 yards and a touchdown. If he’s unable to play, that’ll be a big blow, but he shouldn’t be out much longer.

Bowers Partners With USAA to Promote Safe Driving

USAA is one of the NFL’s top partners. Their work has helped connect so many NFL players to military and law enforcement professionals.

Ahead of National Teen Driver Safety Week (October 19 – 25), USAA partnered with Bowers to help bring awareness. USAA created a Safe Driving Auto Simulator, which plays like a video game, but is meant to help show people the importance of safe driving.

The simulation works on a points system. You start with 100, and every infraction leads to point deductions. Things like car accidents will lead to an automatic loss, while running a stop sign will deduct five points.

Though it’s a different experience from driving an actual car, Bowers was able to score a 90.

“The driving simulator was a little tough. You know, it’s a little bit different than actual driving, but there were some distractions and stuff, but I thought I did pretty good,” Bowers told Heavy Sports.

USAA has partnered with many different Raiders players over the years, and Bowers has enjoyed working with them to this point.

“It’s been great,” Bowers said. “And, you know, I always love coming out and supporting different causes for first responders, military, everything like that. And especially this week, with the safe driving campaign that I’ve been doing. So it’s been great.”

Pete Carroll Hopeful Bowers Can Return Soon

Bowers is eager to get back on the field, but the only way his knee will fully recover is if he takes some time off. While head coach Pete Carroll wants his star tight end back on the field, he acknowledged that it might be best to give him until after the bye week to rest.

“I’m hopeful, but we’re looking after him,” Carroll told reporters on Monday. “There’s a big bye coming up and all that kinda stuff. An extra week, a couple of weeks you’d get, before you’d have to come back. I’m optimistic always, but that doesn’t mean we’re getting him back. You look at the long haul of it, it might be best to just guarantee that he’s full speed and back. So we’ll see how we handle that.”
