Raiders Trade Proposal Sends Jakobi Meyers to Desperate NFC Team

The Las Vegas Raiders have seen their season slide off track, falling further from playoff contention with each loss.

One insider believes the Raiders can help out another foundering team by trading one of their top assets. Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay proposed a series of trades to shake up the season, suggesting the Raiders can ship wide receiver Jakobi Meyers to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a Day 2 draft pick.

Raiders Would Get Jump on the NFL Trade Deadline

Kay noted that the Raiders have fallen apart after a season-opening win over the New England Patriots, dropping to 1-4 and likely exploring the prospect of selling at the trade deadline. Kay predicted the Raiders could part ways with Meyers, getting a third-round pick from the Cardinals in return.

“One player who could return a strong amount of draft capital is Jakobi Meyers, the veteran wideout who has been one of the few consistent playmakers for this downtrodden club in recent years,” Kay wrote.

Kay added that Meyers would have some high value to a contender — or a team trying to jump-start their season and get back in contention, like the Cardinals. Meyers has 25 receptions for 290 yards so far this season, one of the most consistent members of the Las Vegas offense.

“With the 28-year-old playing out the final year of his contract, Vegas brass should get ahead of Meyer’s likely free-agency departure by trading him to one of the teams that has become desperate for receiving help,” Kay wrote.

Meyers could become the No. 2 receiver in Arizona, playing alongside Marvin Harrison Jr.

“Arizona has to find another viable wideout to complement Harrison, a role Meyers would excel in,” Kay wrote. “While he’s been working as a WR1 for the Raiders, he’s a more natural WR2 and would thrive in that role for the Cardinals.”

Jakobi Meyers Expected to Move

Other NFL analysts see Meyers as a likely trade target at the upcoming deadline. Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports identified him as one of the top trade candidates, noting that the Raiders could be ready to start building assets for a coming rebuild.

“He’s Las Vegas’ leading receiver, and it’s not surprising, given his route-running polish,” Benjamin wrote. But the Raiders don’t appear equipped for a real run this year, and Meyers previously sought” a trade over failed contract discussions. With Tre Tucker also emerging out wide, now might be time for a split.”

Justin Melo of USA Today’s Raiders Wire went a step further, suggesting the Raiders have failed to properly utilize Meyers and would be better served by shipping him away to a new team. The Raiders will likely be looking for a quarterback in next year’s NFL draft, and could start to build some ammunition for a move up the board if needed.

“Meyers isn’t playing a big enough role in Chip Kelly’s offense,” Melo wrote. “The Raiders opted not to rebuild this past offseason, hiring a 74-year-old head coach before acquiring a 34-year-old QB via trade. With disaster striking early, the Raiders may possess no choice but to properly rebuild next offseason. If that’s the case, trading Meyers for a draft pick would make sense.”
