Raiders Urged to Make Massive Pete Carroll Decision

The Las Vegas Raiders dropped to 2-10 following their Week 13 defeat against the Los Angeles Chargers, leaving head coach Pete Carroll’s future in serious doubt. The mounting struggles raise the question of whether Carroll will last only one season with the Silver and Black.

After parting ways with offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, one of the highest-paid at his position in the league, it’s not hard to imagine the Raiders cutting ties with Carroll and acknowledging that the hire didn’t work out.

With only five games left in their 2025 NFL season, the prominent question surrounding the Raiders is whether Carroll will get a Year 2, and for Las Vegas sports radio host JT the Brick, the answer is yes.

“You can’t judge Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick on their 73 and 74-year birthdays,” JT the Brick said on a December 2 appearance on Mad Dog Sports Radio. “You [have] got to judge them on their entire life and legacy and think that they could maybe finish strong and have a better year next year. This doesn’t mean they go out at the bottom. Belichick is not going to go out at the bottom of North Carolina.

“Pete Carroll is not going to go out at the bottom with the two-win Raider team. Don’t they have the right, with their legacy, to prove that they can still win? Why do you think Pete Carroll lost his edge? Do you think he lost it at practice? You think he lost it in the locker room? That would not be fair to say to Pete Carroll because he hasn’t lost his fastball.”

Pete Carroll Will Want to Prove He’s Still a Top NFL Coach

Furthermore, JT the Brick believes that, given how this season has gone, Carroll will be pining to at least get a Year 2 in Las Vegas to show that his first season isn’t the norm. A full offseason and adding players that he sees fit will likely be his selling point.

“He’s just coaching a bad team that doesn’t have good players,” JT the Brick added. “Why isn’t he coaching at Seattle, where he went to two Super Bowls, won a Super Bowl, created the Legion of Boom, and had 10-win seasons every year? Because it wasn’t sustainable anymore.

“You’re throwing out Belichick and Pete Carroll like they’re toast. They’re done. You’re not giving them a chance. And they deserve that chance because they have legacies, and they’re, and their legacies are Hall of Fame legacies.”

The Raiders Head Coaching Job Isn’t Attractive

If Las Vegas opts to part ways with Carroll, the focus will shift to the kind of coach the Raiders want to bring in. Hondo Carpenter, a Raiders insider for Sports Illustrated, shared candid perspectives from conversations with people around the league about just how appealing the head coaching position looks as the offseason approaches.

“Talking to a lot of people around the NFL, this is not going to be an attractive job,” Carpenter said on the November 30 edition of the “Las Vegas Raiders Insider Podcast.” “So either they’re going to have to make some big-time assurances to a big-time coach, or they’re going to have to go the youth route. And if you go the youth route, you are rolling the dice. I’m not rooting against the franchise, but if you go the youth route, you’d better hope they hit big.

“And those guys usually don’t, but you better hope they do, because the way this franchise has been conditioned, you go get a young coach and he has a rough year, and next year could be rough. Then your fan base is going to be calling to get him fired, and you’re right back where you are.”
