After six weeks of the 2025 NFL season, the first head coaching job is now available.
The Tennessee Titans fired Brian Callahan, making way for aspiring head coaches to get their first opportunity with the AFC South team. There are still 11 more weeks before any official decision on who will be the next coach to run the organization, but that isn’t stopping NFL analysts and writers from making their predictions on who will be the next person.
Sports Illustrated Conor Orr released a list of possible replacements for Callahan, featuring a Los Angeles Rams coordinator.
Rams May Lose A Coordinator

The Los Angeles Rams’ defense is currently allowing the third fewest points per game this season under second-year defensive coordinator Chris Shula at 18.3 points per game.
The Rams’ defensive front is looking like one of the best in the league, with their front line having 15 sacks this season.
Orr names Shula as a candidate for the Titans’ open head coaching spot after Callahan’s hiring.
“Shula has come from the depths of Sean McVay’s coaching staff to create post–Aaron Donald havoc the likes of which this team has not seen since McVay’s Super Bowl run in 2021,” Orr wrote for SI.
“The grandson of legendary NFL coach Don Shula currently coaches a unit that is in the top five in yards allowed, points allowed, takeaways and rushing touchdowns allowed. Shula is great at the podium, skilled at explaining dense concepts and has crafted a pressure-heavy defense that can simulate much larger pass rushes with just a few bodies.”
Shula has allowed opposing teams to 18.3 PPG without having a proper CB1 on the roster and a handful of injuries on the defensive side of the ball.
The last time the Titans had a former defensive coordinator as head coach, the team appeared in the playoffs three times.
Who Would Replace Chris Shula?

If Chris Shula were to be hired for the Tennessee Titans’ head coaching job, the Rams would obviously need to find a replacement.
Shula was an internal hire after the Atlanta Falcons hired former DC Raheem Morris to take the helm of the organization. Now, the Rams could go for an internal hire a second time for their defensive coordinator position.
One notable member of the defensive coaching staff is defensive line coach Giff Smith, who was the interim head coach for the crosstown rival, the Los Angeles Chargers, just two seasons ago.
The Rams D-line is currently tied for the fourth most sacks in the league with 19 after six weeks this season.
Pass rusher Jared Verse won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award under Smith last season. EDGE rusher Byron Young has the second-most sacks in the league with 7.5 in the 2025-26 season, only half a sack behind the leader.
While it is too early to tell about Shula’s future, the Rams do have an option to replace their defensive coordinator.
