This past offseason, the Los Angeles Rams landed a big splash with wide receiver Davante Adams. The Rams signed the prized free agent to a two-year deal worth $44 million.
The departure of Cooper Kupp opened the way for a WR1 in LA, and Adams, who played college football at Fresno State, came back to California as a top option for quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Adams was originally a second-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in the 2014 NFL Draft and played in Green Bay for the first six seasons of his career.
He was then traded to the Las Vegas Raiders, and the Raiders traded him to the New York Jets during the 2024 season as he reunited with Aaron Rodgers.
In Adams’ first season in LA, the soon-to-be 33-year-old is having a strong year. Through 11 games, he has 48 receptions for 631 and 12 touchdowns.
He leads the team in that category, and he is on the way to making never-before-seen NFL history.
Davante Adams on the Brink of NFL History
Entering Week 13, Adams has 12 touchdowns, and he leads Puka Nacua (4 TDs) by a large amount.
If Adams finished the year as the receiving touchdown leader for the Rams, he would be the first player in NFL history to do that with three separate franchises, according to ESPN Insights.
“Davante Adams leads the NFL in receiving touchdowns (12) with the Rams, and he also led in 2020 with the Packers and in 2022 with the Raiders.”
In 2020, Adams had 115 catches for 1,374 yards with 18 touchdowns, which marked a career-high in scores.
In 2022, he had 100 catches for 1,516 yards with 14 touchdowns, which was the second-most in his career.
This season, he is behind Nacua in receptions (80) and yards (947), as the young WR leads the team in those categories.
But, while Adams has just 48 catches, one-quarter of those have resulted in touchdowns.
He enters Week 13 with five straight games with a touchdown catch, and he has had three multi-touchdown games in that stretch, including three against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Matthew Stafford Speaks Highly of the Rams’ Star WR
This season, Stafford is having a season worthy of NFL MVP buzz. He has thrown for 2,830 yards with 30 touchdowns and just two interceptions.
He is fifth in passing yards and first in passing touchdowns with a seven-touchdown lead over both Jared Goff and Dak Prescott.
The Rams QB credited Adams for doing a “great job” in getting open, especially in the red zone.
“He’s doing a great job of getting open down there,” Stafford said, via Rams reporter Stu Jackson. “I’m putting it in some spots where he can go make his plays and that’s awesome…He’s been doing it for a long time in the league, especially down in the red zone. He’s got a hundred and something touchdowns and it’s really impressive to see what he can do in a small area, both at the line of scrimmage and at the catch point.”
Through the first 12 games, Adams has just two games without a touchdown, which came in back-to-back weeks at the start of October.
The Rams face the Carolina Panthers in Week 13, and at this rate, Adams could set a career-high in receiving scores while also etching his name into NFl record books.
