Rams Defensive Coordinator Is Excited For This Players Return

The Los Angeles Rams secondary room was questionable to start the 2025 season. LA attempted to acquire a true number one corner in the offseason, including trying to trade for former player Jalen Ramsey, but failed to do so.

The defense has held its own this season, helping the team to its 9-2 record. In the pass defense, LA has allowed 208.5 yards per game this season, which is the 13th most in the league.

But with the return of one of the team’s most experienced players in the secondary, it can help deter opposing quarterbacks on game day.

Experienced Defensive Back Returns To Practice

The Los Angeles Rams lost cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon in Week 2 due to a broken collarbone. The corner was then placed on injured reserve, and now 11 weeks later, is on the verge of returning.

The Rams have opened Witherspoon 21 day practice eligibility and to return to the 53-man roster in the final few weeks of the season.

“Excited,” defensive coordinator Chris Shula said of Witherspoons’ return to practice. “He’s been around, but excited to see him [at practice] today. We’ll figure out his role, just like we do everyone here throughout the week.”

“We haven’t seen him take a full speed snap yet or anything like that, but he’s just another good player, productive player for us… Guy that has a skillset that we could definitely could use. So, it’s great to have him.”

Witherspoon will have a hard matchup in his first game since Week 2, as he could line up against the Carolina Panthers rookie wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, who is making a case for the offensive rookie of the year award. The rookie has 783 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns on the season, on the 6-6 team.

Ahkello Witherspoon Returns At The Right Time

Ahkello Witherspoon returning to practice is a glimpse of light in a battered and questionable Los Angeles Rams defensive back room. The Rams recently placed Roger McCreary, who they acquired in a trade from the Tennessee Titans earlier in the season, on injured reserve.

With Witherspoons’ return, will give the team an immediate boost in the defense. The corner has had a small career resurgence since playing in Los Angeles.

He had his career season back in the 2023 season, which was hist first season on the team. The corner logged 14 pass deflections and 52 tackles, while also starting every single game for the Rams.

Los Angeles was making moves with McCreary off the roster, including signing former player Derion Kendrick to the roster.

With Witherspoon returning to practice, the Rams Super Bowl hopes can go higher with one of the teams most experienced returning in the near future and help in the playoffs.
