Rams Deliver Davante Adams News in Extensive Injury Update

The Los Angeles Rams are bracing for tight end Tyler Higbee’s return, but they may be less fortunate with wide receiver Davante Adams.

Adams has been sidelined after aggravating a hamstring injury in Week 15 against the Detroit Lions. He sat out the Rams’ losses to the Seattle Seahawks on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 16 and the Atlanta Falcons on “Monday Night Football” in Week 17.

If the first practice of Week 18 is any indication, it could be more of the same in Week 18.

Adams was one of several Rams players to receive noteworthy updates from head coach Sean McVay. There was plenty to be optimistic about, including safety Quentin Lake and tight end Tyler Higbee’s potential returns from injured reserve.

Adams’ playing in Week 18 remains unlikely, though.

“As far as projected kind of practice, because we just had a walkthrough, guys that would be DNP today, Blake Corum, Josh Wallace, Davante, Kevin Dodson, and then everybody else would be listed as limited. And Higbee was full. Started his clock today,” McVay told reporters on December 31.

“We’ll start  [Lake’s] clock as well. It’s just because of the walkthrough. So, we’ll probably–that’ll be official tomorrow. Be able to get him out there in practice.”

Adams notably missed three games during the 2024 season, partly due to a hamstring injury.

He was also going through a trade request during the period, which ended with him going from the Las Vegas Raiders to the New York Jets before the deadline. This time, precaution is playing a part in the decision around the six-time Pro Bowler.

Rams Planning for Playoffs

McVay also said he doubted the Rams would start right tackle Rob Havenstein’s clock. He was also pessimistic about Adams being available against the Arizona Cardinals in the finale, saying the “goal” for him and Lake was “to be ready to roll for the playoffs.”

While Adams has made encouraging progress, the Rams have bigger goals than Week 18.

“Lake would be just to get him out there on the practice field with the expectation of him playing in the first round of the playoffs. And then, Davante, we’re just–he’s going to get out there, be able to do some individual. He’s been running around moving good. I wouldn’t say that he’s like totally out for the game, but it’s more likely than not that he will not play,” McVay said

“It’s more of just to make sure that we’re able to kind of get [Adams] a full workload. He’s going to be able to do some different things in a more controlled setting. … But just with the position that he plays, being able to open up, want to make sure that we’re, you know, getting everything ready to roll and being smart with him just because of the position that he plays and the stress that that hamstring takes with some of the different things that we activate with him.”

The Rams have two more practice sessions to get on the field and see who will or won’t be available for the finale against the Cardinals, Adams included.
